Howard 100 kicked off today with an hour long argument between Howard and Artie. I only caught the last part of it, so I will post more details later…

Arties crying to Howard this morning was the most pathetic garbage I have heard fall out of fat boys mouth what a pathetic pussy. I love the back tracking about Howard being his friend. Artie really sounded like a total jerk.
Here are your details: Artie was pissed because Howard used his Fat as another bit. He’s basicaly tired of being cracked on for his Fatness. LMAO! He claimed that howard did not bring the stripper on to help artie get laid, but to exploite Artie and bring a chick on with a strange fetish for fat people. Howard replyed by saying that he didn’t bring the chick on for her fat fetish that he brought her on as an oportunity for Artie to meet a stranger without having to make small talk or to have to put any real effort to break the ice and get to know her. He said that he did it as a friend, not with the intention of hurting Artie, or cracking on him. Artie’s reply was that Howard was not a real “friend” that thier relationship was purely professional and thay saying he was howard “Bro” as Howard put it was not only gay and outdated that it was totaly not true. (which he backtracked on later)
Okay, so I did hear the majority of it.. but missed the beginning…. I gotta hear it to give a real opinion on it.. but it sounds like Artie is being too sensitive, and he is so insecure that he doesn’t feel Howard’s relationship with him could be any more than friends…
Backtracking is for bullshitting. When you whine about something long enough there is obviously truth in whatever your saying….
As for Howard, I think in his mind he is Artie’s friend… but Howard has many issues with relationships…. which could be a reason Artie thinks the way he does, because he has ’studied’ Howard over the years…
I’m guessing as much as Artie loves the Stern Show… there is an underlying hate he has toward Stern.
Arties hearts take: Howard is a flat out weird guy whose been doing the same show for over 20 years. His personal life is odd and i would imagin so are ALL or most of his personal relationships. Artie can’t piegone hole Howards friendship into ANY type of friendship he has with ANY OF HIS OTHER “Friends”. And the nature of the show is basicly putting your life on display for the world. Artie knew this from the start, and now that he’s hitting areas thats hitting close to the mark he’s crying like a bitch. No one made Artie fat but Artie. And Howard pointing this out everyday is what the show is about, it’s why artie is on the show. His out of control behavior and nutty stories. It’s not Howards fault your a fat mess Artie and it’s funny as hell that you have let yourself get like this and even more of a luagh that it bothers you. This is somthing you can change. You want Howard and the rest of the world to do what you do to yourself. Ignore your problems. Problems that are so glaring, the 500lb gorrila analogy comes to mind.
Yup, I think we are on the same page here. You hit it on the head. … but the sad truth is, Artie will not “let it go” even though he has been on the show for 6 years… his skin isn’t getting thicker, its getting thinner and I bet to some degree he blames the show for his unhappiness and fat.
Artie is lazy, he has an addictive personality and it is FOOD these days instead of heroin and gambling. Howard will keep this joke up just like the Heat and Air Conditioning in his limo…

I thought at one point he was going to walk out. Also I never heard the bit when he said he was upset that Dana left him when he needed her most. I don’t know dick about there relationship other then what artie says on the show. But hearing the fact that she wanted Artie to goto therapy and the fact that he hid this huge addiction from her what would he expect? She wanted him to help himself and he was unwilling to even try. For a dude who likes to think he’s a mans man he seems like a weak pussy. Is it so freaking hard to “put the fork down”? If he has enough disicpline to work as much as he does he has enough to get himself together.

I feel bad for him. I mean, I dont know Artie, only what you hear here… but its good entertainer and its sad to see him just crashing like this… and I hate to say it, but the Stern Show is not a place for him. The show is too much pressure, not enough privacy for him, all his shit is aired, all his insecurities… for a guy like him, it only makes him crazier.. Look at Stern, he has been doing therapy for how long? The show only allows him to keep over-analyzing everything,… and everyone else over-analyze him.
Makes you appreciate the sacrifice they give for our entertainment.

It’s been obvious for the last few months that Artie is either going to leave because he’s sick of being picked on for his weight on a daily basis lately. True Stern fans know that anyone on that show is a target and for a LONG time Robin and Stern NEVER took pot shots at Artie. It was only once he started offering up his personal life happenings and feelings (yes, he’s allowed to have feelings even though he’s a guy) that as Artie said Howard and Robin became mom & dad. If you listen everyday and have more than two brain cells to rub together, you heard this explosion coming from Artie.
While Stern is a legend who clearly has a huge ego but gives credit to those on his staff for the brilliant bits and so on, Artie is a comedian and hell if we’re not all a bit insecure. How much can you take? Eventually the even the comedian gets sick of being ripped on.
Credit to Howard for an honest appology. Credit to Artie for sticking up for himself and not eating shit. I hope it heals because it would be a shame to see Artie leave in January even though most of us saw this coming for a while (through the Dana breakup, buying a house etc.).

I didn’t know that Artie was a comedian!?!
I just thought he was a fat pig that talked sometimes in between grazing at the trough. Pigs usually like to burrow in the back of the barn in between feedings in the winter, so I figured that’s what this whole thing was all about. Oh well, my bad.
Ok. Artie Lange is a comedian, mr. “arties esophagus.” In fact, Artie is one of the funnier comedians out there. What did you just learn a few new vocabulary words or something? Your analogy for Artie being a pig is so incoherent i cannot even insult you enough. Artie Lange has an eating disorder– it is inate; he cannot just “put down the fork” and furthermore, piling Artie’s family history and trajedies, combind with his past heroin addiction (also an inate trait), to his eating disorder and being over 300 pounds, he has had enough. He is “not leaving the show, but leaving showbusiness” and this is the only way for him to regain his sanity and health. That show would be half as funny as it is if Artie hadn’t been on it. Artie doesn’t just provide jokes; he provides comical connections, hence the Bob Levy roasts, and every other little known comedian that comes on the show and cracks everybody up. As for Artie’s relationship with Howard, Artie has been exposed to more “fat shots” ever since they came to Sirius, partly because he gained the majority of his weight on Sirius. However, Howard shows lack of loyalty to Artie…hasn’t anybody seen Private Parts, and what he did to Robin? This is almost exactly reminiscent of that scenario and maybe it will be a reinactment. Artie doesn’t ever say much about his own weight, and he doesn’t complain on a linear basis. He complains when Howard bitches him out on a day like today, because Artie came up with a logical proposition to leave the show. Howard is selfish to dissuade him because of his show. If Howard is Artie’s friend, he would fully support him, and wish him prosperity. I guess nobody here is smart enough to consider all of these events in Arties’ career/life.
We are all considering those events in his life. I listened to Howard talking to Artie again for the third time (as i type) telling him to go see a shrink all that advice. And its great advice. But Artie needs to find out for himself. The problem is, is that he is running away from his problems again. The truth is, he is scared, he doesnt know what to do and so he comes up with the most extreme thing thinking thats what he needs… running away to Europe for 6 months? What the fuck does that have to do with anything… The problems in your head are there no matter where you are… especially if they go all the way back to his dad dying.
As far as the show not being as funny…. please. Artie is fantastic and I made this site in tribute to him. However, the Stern show was funny before him and will be funny after him.

Alright, agreed that the Howard Show was funny before Artie got there, but he gave it that extra boost to make it extraordinary. I mean, Howard practically hired him on the show when Norm Macdonald brought him on the show because he thought he was so funny. I don’t necessarily think that Europe would be a great idea, but it wouldn’t hurt, because any place where he can mull his life values over without the tease from fellow comics, is beneficial for him. On the other hand, if he was to go to Amsterdam, it might be detrimental to his health/improvement. Sure, all emotional problems linger in your head no matter where you go with them, but certain places are more rehabilitating than others, and the Stern studio certainly is not the best place. The bottom line is that I don’t think Artie is a pussy any under circumstances. I sure will miss him; hopefully Howard won’t push his buttons for the next seven months.

Its okay if he wants to go away for awhile.,. but the day he steps back in New Jersey, his life will all come back to him and he has to start over again. So really, spending 3-6 months in Europe is only delaying his healing..

We all need a break sometime. Artie is lucky because be has a boss that will let him. If any of us tried we would be fired. Maybe he can straighten things out and make the show even more dominant when he returns. In the meantime bring Gilbert in to fill the hole.

I think this is a tough sopt for Artie. He does have an addictive personality, and food it filling his cravings right now. Howard will continue to ride him for it, but I think a part of why Howard does it to try and get Artie to lose some weight; it’s his weird way of trying to help him. There is an obvious bond between the two of them, but it’s easy to understand why Artie feels that Howard is using Artie’s weight as a bit. When he put’s those side by side pics of skinny and fat artie, it’s got to be heartbreaking for Artie to see what has happened. I think he’s right to want to take a break because Sal and Richard and the whole gang will always be pushing him to go on the road with them for gigs. Artie adds credibility to their act. As much as I love Artie, I think he’s right to want a break. He’s recognized that he needs to stop his slide and focus on his health.
Everyone has a right to do what they want in life. And so many people are very stubborn when it comes down to taking advice. He probably doesn’t really see it, but as Howard and Robin tried to tell him, they have been there… they all have. Running away doesn’t solve things. But we all know, you can only learn from experience, so he will make his choice and when he does I hope it works out for him.
Of all these long-winded posts bruce has made the best point. ROBIN SHUT THE FUCK UP!

And for the record, To hear that artie was going to leave the show was truly upsetting….I’ve listened to Howard since I was little and i am now a big fan of Artie. He happens to be the best comedian that was ever on Howard stern ……(he could probably have his own show).
And, just like Artie reacts by threatening to leave the show…I react by insulting him.
I’d also like to add that artie does NOT have an ‘innate’ addiction to heroin. Maybe he was predisposed to addictive behavior…and that can manifest itself in many different ways. But, your not predisposed to Heroin, unless you were born on heroin….and artie wasn’t born a heroin baby.

Well there is a big hole with your Dave Chappelle analogy, and maybe its just because you have some secret knowledge that the rest of us mere mortals do not have about Dave…. but Artie is a gambler, an alcoholic, a heroin addict, an over-eater, yes… an overall addictive, self-destructive personality.
Whereas Dave C, publically, was having issues from a creative standpoint with the whole feeling responsible thing for the race jokes, business pressures, and so on …. I wasnt aware he went to Africa because he was an addict. Artie is in the best job of his career, he says he is happy creatively. Sure, he has ‘business’ pressures with the stand-up gigs being too much, but its called ’self-regulate’ yourself. Artie just can’t say no, and has no discipline.
Also, even if he did, I think Dave’s situation was different. Married with children alone could give him a completely different support system and life base. To where Artie is a guy is only gets chicks because he is on the Howard Stern show.

Artie really turned the show around. I listened during the Jackie days and cringed whenever the man spoke. When Artie came on, I found myself looking forward to the bits that focused on Artie.
I remember a day, about eight months before they migrated to Sirius, where Artie was in a similar spot. They were on him about the drinking and he blew up. It was right about the time he and Dana broke up the first time and he was really, really depressed.
I think he knows that he and Howard are friends, and that he was just snapping at Howard because he was feeling betrayed. There’s a fine line with fat jokes. The occasional ribbing is okay, but sometimes it crosses a line. Also, when a person is worried about their own health and weight, you just can’t do that.
About two weeks ago, there was an interview with Artie where he addressed his concerns about being burned out and his health and discussed maybe leaving the show to get his health back. So this wasn’t a new thing. I guess no one at the show read the interview, but google news artie lange and you should find it.
It’s obvious that the move to Sirius wasn’t good for Artie. Whether its the longer air time, or what, I don’t know, but Artie is feeling too much pressure and feeling like he’s in a fre for all.
I find it funny how everyone gets so upset about Howard Stern show saying Artie is leaving. Come on guys, this whole schtick to the show is that its basically a 4 hour ‘embedded’ advertisement and the majority of the topics are scripted. Some of the ‘fights’ get out of hand and im sure they go off script, but if you think that the King of All Media lets his show go on for over 20 years without even a ‘playlist’ for the topics they are going to hit, the times when they want an argument to happen, etc…then your deluded.
I love the HS Show…I LOVE Artie…he is the best thing on there in my opinion, but there was a recent show where Howard got on Opie and Anferny’s case about doing ‘embedded advertisements’ and Howie said ‘that would NEVER work’ and Artie kind of scoffed and laughed about it…You could tell in just that two second laugh that Artie wants to let out the ‘joke’ about the show, that its all scripted, the products Howie brings up during the show are just ‘live’ advertisements…
Dont get so worked up about Artie saying he is leaving…He probably has something worked out with Fox, or maybe he just does want to retire and enjoy his life…Artie is a guy that when backed into a corner will fight tooth and nail and say things you dont want to hear…But this was very ‘reserved’ and felt kind of loosely scripted. Yet another ruse pulled off by the masterful Stern and crew…

He said some of the things said he is sensitive about. He doesn’t like when they rip him about Dana, grandma lang, his eating, his weight…. shall i go on?? He has no qualms going on about Sal having a gay son or Stern being gay for watching dancing with the stars. Maybe they are sensitive about that stuff, huh artie!

That fight was between two people, Artie and Howard…. I can see BOTH Howard and Arties sides, There were NO winners. Saying a few things now and then is cool, i think where Howard went over board and is wrong is having him jump on the scale daily… Thats humuliating, not being “thin skinned”. Artie was wrong to not call him out earlier, off the air and letting him know it was bothering him. But I would not have called him a Pelican and tried to stoop down to the same level.
THE CLEAR LOSER WAS ROBIN… SHUT YOU FRIGGIN mouth BIOTCH!!! She never really annoyed me till that day. She shold have stayed out of it, like Fred, and the rest… It should have only been Howie and Artie talking. Turn her mic the F*** off!!

Unfortunately, I think the reality is, when you leave a show like the Howard Stern show.. or maybe i should say especially the Howard Stern show, you arent gonna make it bigger somewhere else.
Artie will get work, he is a talented guy, but anyone who thinks his career will be bigger is probably wrong. I think even Artie feels that way..

first off, I love Artie on the show, he is infinitely funnier than Jackie ever was and when he came on board I found myself enjoying the show much more.
I don’t think Artie is upset because he is getting goofed on because of his weight, everybody gets goofed on relentlessly, except maybe Robin, and Howard pokes more fun at his own physical deficiencies than anybody else. Artie is smart enough to understand that, but Artie is an addict and he is responding as any addict would when pressured to let go of his addictions. He rejects those who are pressuring him. A lot of the attention toward his weight and addiction problems are an underlying “Artie you gotta clean up before you die” message. Artie is picking up on this and it has created an undercurrent of tension between him and the show. Anyone who has dealt with a person with destructive addictions knows that only an addict can clean up his act. Nobody can push them into it. He is feeling pressured and lashing out. This reminds of when Hank the angry dwarf was nearing the end, everyone sensed it and Howard actually offered free treatment to Hank, but he rejected it because he wasn’t ready to let his drinking addiction go. Hank could only help Hank and unfortunately it didn’t happen before he died. Artie is no different. Artie can only help Artie. I only hope he cleans up before he goes the way of Farley, Belushi and Candy.
If he does leave hopefully Howard will find a good replacement. God forbid it
