Gambling left a bad taste

Howard asked Artie if he was done with betting since he got screwed out of his big payday. Artie said that he received a betting suggestion on a basketball game this weekend from a friend who is good at handicapping games and is usually on target. Artie declined.

The bookie 

Artie mentioned that he was not speaking with the bookie who screwed him. They had known each other for years and  the bookie’s wife had called Artie after the last on-air discussion of it and asked if they were still friends. Artie basically hung up on her.
