Around 8 am. Artie goes on another FAGGOT tirade today on the show, this time the target: Teddy. When Teddy didn’t know to keep a copy of Artie’s passport, Artie blew up on Teddy in the hallway during the commercial. When they came back from break, Artie brought Teddy in and erupted.
Teddy claims he tries to quit every week.
SOUNDS LIKE ARTIE ALMOST ATTACKED TEDDY ON THE AIR!!! Robin just yelled “What the F is going on”! Howard just said that Artie needs to go home and cool down.
Artie came back in saying repeatedly Teddy is ripping off my money. Then blamed Howard for prodding Artie to get to that level calling him “The Great Interviewer”. Artie brought up the Sal situation and said why would you put me back in the same situation claiming Howard wants it. Howard said I doesn’t want this and that Artie needs to stay under control. Artie said he couldn’t be trusted.
Artie then said he resigns. Howard accepted.
Artie walks out
“I’m not a good person… I gotta leave.. I love you.”
Later Robin sounded like she was almost crying. Dominic called in and said it “doesn’t take Dr. Ablow to say that it has nothing to do with Teddy“. Benjy said that he thought Artie could hurt himself, or in a suicidal state.

I think Howard thinks he is a shrink himself. He continually evaluates people and plays psychotherapist. Each time he fails miserably.
That being said, each person must be held personally accountable for their actions. This is the third major conflict Artie has had with co-workers that we know of. He has to get help, not for his career or professional life, but for him to enjoy the years he has left, he must get professional help.

I didn’t get to hear the initial fight only the aftermath. Artie lost his passport and blames Teddy that he did keep a copy?!?! I never heard of a copy passport maybe an extra pic for a passport but not a passport itself. Then he blames howard for instigating the fight? All kidding aside he really is a fucking baby. He really is someone who cannot take responsibility for their own actions. And if he leaves the show like this it’s the definition of going out like a bitch.

So he does it by backdoor methods such as eating, chain-smoking, drinking, prostitutes and drugs. He really does not care whether or not he lives.

i first started listening to Stern on AFTERNOON drive, and with the constant repeat you’d never miss a show…it’d be even more soap opera-ish—you’re left in suspense until the next day.
As for Artie being suicidal—i don’t think so. i think he just needs to beat the crap out of someone to get his head back together—a good night of barroom brawling:)

Artie’s problem is all the yentas on the show constantly telling him what to do. At the same age Artie is now: Howard was divorcing, unfit, hiding in his basement and depressed; Robin was fat, freaking out, and sending interns away in tears; and Fred was blowing up at everyone and everything.
Nothing is worse than knowing that you need to get your stuff together and yet having a never-ending onslaught of “advice”.
Artie should take a break from the show, fire his manager, hire professional assistant who can oversee his schedule and the construction of the house, and let his money work for himself, instead of the other way around. Teddy seems like a real sweetheart but is NOT equiped to be a personal assistant to someone in Artie’s position.
I’ve been a personal assistant to some high profile personalities. Not only is it not a easy job (some people think that it’s all glamour when it’s not at all). The goal of a personal assistant is to do everything possible to make your employers life very easy and make your employer look real good. Having 12 years experience with some difficult boss’ I don’t know if I could handle Artie!
I blame Artie bc he knew Teddy could not provide the service he needed. He should have let him go a very long time ago. He was just too lazy to hire someone new.

If you listend around late 80’s you would hear people complain “oh good line Jackie” because Howard would say something hilarious that Jackie wrote. Judy Tetuna, Richard Lewis, Richard Belzer, Gilbert Gottfried, Sam Kinison they all said it and respected Jackie. Calm down everyone. Before we all fly off the handle on him let’s just look at the fact that he is a human at the end of the day. Sometimes we all get our plate piled up to much and loose it. I think this weekend he will blow some steam off and come back and be level headed. It made great radio regardless, but the 4th wall was broken, and it sucks, but it will be all back to normal come next monday.
I only found this blog yesterday, (after hearing about it on the show) but there are more knowledgeable people here than on that moron-infested SFN. One visit there proves you never need go back.

Kamie I agree when I get stressed out I don’t throw things or verbally assult someone, I usually walk away and take some time for myself. But if Arti was to leave people would raz him for that and say he can’t hold a job, so I think he is in a no win situation. When I lived in California I knew people who worked in L.A. for Fox and knew Arti from when he worked on Madtv. He is the kind of guy who wears his emotions on his sleeve, and everyone who worked with him said he was an amzing guy, but at the same time he could get crazy and a runner for the show said he stomped off of set a few times. I beleive he was on major drugs at the time, but it was for the same reason. With that being said I think he could have handled it better, but it happens, and no matter what he does leave stay people will always have something negative ot say about it.

I have been a listener for 20 years. That’s my research. Before Jackie finally left for good, I was down to listening a few hours a week. When they started to work on replacing Jackie, I started listening full-time again.
People get old and lose relevance…have you seen Don Rickles lately? He gets laughs even though he’s not close to funny anymore. Just because Jackie came up with some funny shit 20+ years ago, doesn’t mean he’s still relevant or funny. If he were…he’d have…you know…real jobs. (like Attell, Fitzsimmons, Florentine, etc. etc.)

It is true, Who Cares, what you say about Jackie. Jackie was a behind the scenes guy and Howard owes a lot to him. It would be a mistake, however, to bring Jackie back. (Maybe) Goodbye Artie… he has gone downhill and been extremely depressed since Beer League wasn’t the hit he was so hoping for. Screen fame, not radio, seems to be his long-time dream, and it isn’t a dream likely to come true.
He should have acknowledged that early a.m. work was not something his body and mind could adjust to (I can understand that!) and he could have contracted to do the show, say, from 8 a.m. on, or perhaps three days per week instead of four. That would have had the added benefit of somewhat appeasing both the Artie-haters and lovers.
I have a lot of opinions, positive and negative, about Artie and his impact on the Stern show, but have already wasted five minutes writing about him… (but… I’d be delighted if the show pared down to just Howard, Robin, Fred and Gary, with a changing rotation of guest comedians on a couple days per week.)

I only started listening about a year before the move to Sirius, and when they replay old shows on Fridays I just don’t find it as entertaining as the Sirius show. There are people out there who don’t want to see the show go back to what it was 15-20 years ago. Things change.

Artie needs to leave the show, for his own health and peace of mind. He will never get better while he’s on the show; the show is his problem. Well the work day is almost over and I can’t stop thinking about the blowup. I know Artie means well with everything he does but for him to go nuts like this at Teddy is kind of scary. I’m sure Artie takes good care of Teddy and although Teddy is a fuckup and livin’ a freebie life he still needs to act like an employee and not ham shit up for the show.
I just hope Artie comes out of this okay and that Sirius takes into consideration that he is not well.
In regards to the replay…I think it sucks that it’s not getting replayed but I can see it from Sirius’ point of view. As a company they need to review what occurred and take proper action in order to stay away from future confrontations etc.
I just hear the conflict in from youtube. I believe there is more than meets the eye here. I think Artie has serious financial issues, when he comes back in from the hallway after chasing Teddy and howard is talking to him artie answers Howard “why would i call over teddy when i dont call you over my money problems?”

i can assure you that this entire thing was not a joke, and the reason it will not be replayed has nothing to do with howard. unfortunatly it is now in the hands of sirius (they are in fact employees of that company). as much as some think its just interesting listening material, you have to understand that it is a serious issue as is being dealt as so.
I can also assure you that Teddy was never stealing from artie (in any sense of the phrase) and that teddy has been nothing but loyal to him despite the constant vebal beatings he would get. its sad that this happened so publicly and yes it shouldnt have been discussed on air, but in howards defense, you could never predict that even your most tempremental collegue could lash out in such a way (despite past experiences)
Wow…I’ve been in a daze all day over this. I don’t think there’s any way that the event on-site was staged or pre-planned in any way (though, it wouldn’t entirely surprise me if cooler heads prevailed during the upcoming week-off, and they decide to spin it as a bit.)
I was thinking, though, that after the incident, Howard should’ve gotten Langford and the Howard News crew to launch a news alert broadcast, and Howard should’ve taken Gary and gone to Artie’s place, maybe get on the ISDN line, and tell Artie the only way to keep his job would be to go check into rehab immediately.
Personally, I think Artie is funny as hell, but he is so clearly back into heavy using that his performance is noticeably suffering. Frankly, the whole sleeping at work bit yesterday wasn’t so much funny as it was scary as hell. Between the white lips, the sweating, and the ominously vague “my stomach hurts” when he woke up, I was just thinking “dopesick” the whole time.

I’ve also heard from a source that Sirius’ HR dept is looking into what to do about this situation. More on that when I get word. By the way HPM didn’t do anyone a favor (especially Sirius) by rallying the Gay coallition against Artie…stupid ass that HP Mike is.
Bottom line: Artie IS the show. What a great way to keep us guessing, and tuned in. The amazing thing is they don’t have to, because they don’t rely on Arbitrons or anything, but this is Howard maintaining his position as King of All Media.
