This was the the most bizaar morning ever. I’m listening to the show on line and this argument explodes. I was stunned and couldn’t believe what I was hearing. Still stunned, I caught it again on the West Coast feed and it was just as shocking the second time. Where did this come from. Twenty minutes earlier Artie was dancing and then boom!!!
This would be a horrible way for Artie to go out and Howard has to take part of the blame.

I am amazed that Howard pulled the whole show’s tape. I wonder if part of the reason is legal–if Teddy would sue Artie, Howard, Sirius, or all of the above. I’m sure he has a case, and if he’s so broke, it might be tempting. I’m sure there will be ambulance chasers bothering him about it. It’s just so incredibly sad, the whole thing.

To me it sounds like Artie is more haired off w/ Howard than w/ Teddy. I think Artie is tired of getting beat on for his weight and other problems, and Howard kind of quarterbacks those assaults. Artie appears to be a sensitive human being, and it kills him that someone he idolized is now constantly busting his chops. Howard facilitates the exploitation of Artie’s problems. Don’t get me wrong, that’s super entertaining, but it’s hurtful to Artie, and he has too much pride to pull Howard aside and tell him it hurts. He sort of did it w/ the Grandma Caprio calls, then he got his own megaphone and had fun with it.

This is bullshit that there is no replay. I work nights and listen to the replays then, and now I’m going to miss it; Howard always says his show is about honesty and being real, and unless this is a work (possible, but not likely), this is as real and honest as it gets. To pull the replay to protect your own is hypocritical of the highest ilk. Although Deb makes a great point about possibly protecting against a lawsuit.

I think Teddy was being ridiculously arrogant. You just don’t talk that way to a boss, any boss, to third parties, albeit Howard, & get away with it. Artie was wrong to meltdown but he should get a better assistant. He is right that Teddy should have been fired, perhaps long ago. this is all very regrettable. Teddy works for Atie now & his first loyalty is to Artie, not promoting himself as a show personality.

I love the warmth the Artie brought to the show. His genuine love and respect he had for the folks on the show was a refreshing change from the past with that jealous no talent Jackie. But Artie also has a ton of issues that he needs to address or he will literally and figuratively die. The crazy part about Artie is that somewhere in tha big warm Italian heart is an incredible vicious streak.
He had a problem with Ted that most intelligent folks on the planet could have dealt with by addressing the problems directly without flying too far off the handle. Instead he calls Ted a faggot and say things like he’s a looser and will be for the rest of his life. Then suddenly, he jumps up and tries to beat the snot out of him or worse. What the fuck? Get a grip dude!
I’m no psychoanalyst, but i think the eating, drug use, drinking, not showing up for work, fits of uncontrollable anger, etc, etc are all part of an underlying problem that he needs to address and fix. Today’s outburst was wake up call number 1,010 for Artie.

I think this has been coming for awhile now. Artie has been on yet another recent emotional and physical downward spiral the year. Except I think this is the last one. I truly think he is going to die in Amsterdam. (if he still goes) I remember thinking that to myself way before today when they were talking about the trip. And again when he said that he wanted to be mainly by himself during the trip. I think he so badly wants to be on the level of Belushi and Farley that he just might try to follow suit.

I think howard pulled the tape so that it could die. Hopefully they will get all of this worked out and if artie needs help he’ll get it. This has nothing to do with Teddy. Well it kind of does…he feels like he is carrying him. This guy is the worse personal assistant and rather than firing him Artie lets it build up and abuses the poor guy. Like Teddy said just put me out of my misery.
I wish Teddy had just walked out…people were texting him to get the hell out of there. He knows Artie. I think Artie is back on drugs or is suffering from depression. I think it’s the latter with all of these explosions and he needs to take time for himself. I don’t think he’s suicidal but dude is hurting..that’s for sure. Does anyone remember when he said that a couple times a week he would just start sobbing? Then he’s sleeping all of the time. This is classic depression. I just feel bad for the guy. This day sucked for everyone, but it sucked the worse for him. Hopefully they got in contact with his sister. Props to howard for pulling the tape…I’m sure it had more to do with caring for Artie than anything else.

thanks for posting this. i don’t understand why this has to turn into The Great Stern Show Cover Up. NO daily show update on howardstern.com; NO replay on Howard 100; and now I see not even anything on HowardTV! WTF is the deal? Also, no chance this is rigged… if it was this would be EVERYWHERE. Howard wouldn’t miss a chance to get as much mileage off this as possible if it were a stunt. I’m not the biggest Artie fan in the world, but I have to agree that Howard has pushed him to the brink. Sure they always offer to get him healthy and well, but they ALWAYS make him the focus of conversation and it feeds into his unhealthy lifestyle. I think leaving the show will be the best thing for him… and I will miss him greatly.

I hear what you guys are saying but it’s really about them taking a step back to help Artie. I’m sure when they work it out it will be on the replay and HowardTV. I know you guys wanna see the guys collapse and think it’s good radio…..till you hear it. That shit was really sad and I really kind of felt sick when I heard him lose it. It’s like watching someone get killed on TV. You think you want to see it…and then you see it and you’re like wow…I prolly could have lived without seeing it.
It was really sad…hearing a grown man go whimper off and say “i’m not a nice person…I gotta go…I love you…” that sucks. The dude is hurting and from a compassion stand point we can wait a couple days or weeks to see it on HowardTv.

People started to turn against Artie when he became the very asshole we all hate. Teddy’s no brain surgeon, but to see the way Artie would treat him was disgusting. Artie has become the asshole boss we have all had and equally despised. He thinks throwing money (sometimes literally) at any problem will automatically fix it. I know the kind of asshole Artie is. He pays you in cash, and you always have to beg him to get paid every week. Then he makes some put-down remark as he gives it to you. Artie really is the scum of the Earth…but he did help the Stern show to new heights when he started.
People would have a lot more sympathy for Artie and his problems if he hadn’t turned into such a raging pathetic asshole the last year and a half or so. I thought he brought much to the show until he started taking days off. The fatter and richer he has gotten…the more miserable to everyone around him he has become.
I know self-destructive personalities like Artie. Deep down he wants this to happen. He feels free right now, this very second. (maybe that’s the ‘H’) He wants to be able to point to this as the moment the wheels came off his life. He obviously needs the chaos. That house he’s building on the Jersey shore? Gone. Everyone who was his “friend” because of the show? Gone. His career? Gone. Maybe he’ll get an hour on 101 in a year or so.
Howard is not “blameless” either, of course, but this is what he does! He “pokes the bear”…he gets the worst out of people. The whole model of Howard’s show is to push and push and push for fan reaction. Howard doesn’t even care if people hate what he puts on (see: Ralph), he just wants the REACTION.
This was bound to happen. Baby Gorilla is not a “two weeks notice” type dude.

It was a real situation and not replaying it was the absolute right decision from a professional and, more importantly, a HUMAN standpoint.

Joe (3:27) I doubt Artie thinks he is better than Howard. But I believe he is a better man than Howard. I respect Howard’s work ethic, his self-discipline, his commitment to ratings, his political views, his views on marriage, and his ability to get those views to millions of people. But Artie would never wield his position of power over someone like Howard does to Artie.
Why does Howard think he can call Artie “bro”? Artie is Howard’s employee, Artie makes life better for everyone else around him, and Howard should have made absolutely sure he returned the favor. Provoking Artie in that state is a tremendously short sighted move, selfish, and I’m sure Howard will be crying like a little girl about this to his therapist for months to come.

Hi there all. I have been a listner of the show for over 20 years. I wanted to give you a quick opinion and see what the rest of you think:
I believe that if you go back to the “Dice” incedent with money, you get some insight into Arties frame of mind when it comes to money. Lets be honest for a second…Artie, at this point with his weight and other problems, must feel as if money is the one redeeming thing he can control in his life. We all so know that Artie is ridiculously generous to people he feels needs it. I believe these 2 issues are at the core of what took place.
His dad, god rest his soul, was an old school Italian that did some shady stuff in his younger days. I am quite sure that Arties dad told him “never let anyone mess with you and your money.” I know my old school Italian father told me that and then some.
So a day after Artie was basically asleep at his job (another old school Italian thing is to always work your ass off so Artie must have had some guilt), Teddy and Artie have an argument in the hall about Teddy’s job. Howard and Artie drag it into the studio, and the rest is history.
There is a statement that Teddy makes about having to poke and prod Artie for money…that is when Artie loses it. The reason is pretty obvious if you consider my above points…He is calling Artie… what Artie hates, A DEADBEAT. And it is a guy that Artie has basically given alot of money to for no good reason.
That statement was the equivilant of saying Artie had NO VALUE AS A HUMAN BEING. Artie violently reeled against that statement. I think EMOTIONALLY, that is what took place. And when Howard even slightly took Teedy’s side, Artie must have felt as if Howard in some way was agreeing or at least defending Teddy’s right to say that Artie was completely worthless.
Sorry for the length, but I wanted to see what any of you think of this assesment.

Pains me to say this, but Ralph was right on the Superfan Roundtable, when he called on to say that Teddy is no assistant partly because he is employed full time by Sirius, and because he has no real training at being one. Also if Artie feels he is doing so poorly, and loves him so much, then he should give him a large severance check (Ralph said $20,000), and tell him kindly that at this point of his career he needs someone who is a bit better at this thing, and someone full time.

I agree with Rob. I think it was a combination of money issues and a lack of gratitude or respect from Teddy. I mean, Teddy had the gall to suggest that he should receive a percentage of Artie’s show money.
I also think this was about Howard. The day before, he made a tacit agreement with Howard that if he could take a nap on air, then Howard could laugh and poke fun at him all he wanted to while he was asleep. But you notice before he went to sleep, as Howard’s part of the deal, Artie asked that Howard protect his sleeping body from the homosexual antics of Richard and Sal.
I, for one, could not believe it when Richard and Sal were allowed, by Howard, to pose naked with the sleeping Baby-Gorillia. It was a violation on Howard’s part. I think that Artie was still mad about it the next day. Howard broke his part of the deal. He did the one thing that Artie asked him not to do! I think Howard is very entertaining, but he is a hopeless narcissist. I don’t know how anybody can be in an equal relationship with him. I think that Artie has had enough of his brand of “Bro”.

Ok, I forgot to check youtube.com about this site I missed it. This is the first time I finally got to hear it. I got in my car right AFTER it happened. I had no clue what was going on!
First, As some other listeners said. Howard is at fault here. Even Robin said so at first. And I think Howard must had said something under the radios path. (Motioned her to shutup.) Howard will NEVER admit that he was wrong. Unless the people from above at Sirius tells him to do so. (Sirius would really be upset at him, Especially if somebody did get hurt. Thank goodness it was just a scuffle it seemed.)
As for Artie, Well he is at fault as well. And Dominic was right. This has very little to do with Teddy. This is much deeper than that. Artie is like myself, Lets things slide off and not say much of anything, And then when he gets mad? He lets it all out.
But this is also even not much to do with the anger issues. I am not sure if Artie will come clean or not? But Artie is back on drugs. And I know this from seeing my best friend being on drugs. So I know a bit of what I am talking about here.
If he is not on drugs right now, He has backslid at some point. And going through DTs. And this is what causing these violent rages.
Artie even said back in June of last year, He wanted to quit in Jan of this year. Said he knows he is in bad shape. And was thinking about rehab. So that alone already tells me he has done some backsliding. Why else would you goto a drug rehab center?
And I can tell from his huge weight gain, He is on (or has been doing) drugs. There is just simply no question there.
Again, Howard is too blame for the argument though. There was many chances this could had been blown off and the subject changed, Since Teddy wanted to leave.(Obviously Artie does this behavior off the air) since he was getting text on his blackberry to get out of there. And Howard kept prodding it on.
And I think Jessica Hahn even said, Artie took Howard the wrong way. And I agree. I think Artie felt like Howard was kinda siding with Teddy. Howard needs to step up for once in his life and tell Artie…He is very welcome back on the show. But he needs help, Needs to get his himself checked into rehab and counseling. Artie seen himself self destructing and we all know who talked him into staying. And Howard(Although he wont) He needs to admit he was wrong and needs to learn from now on when to back off things. He prods and pokes until they are too late.

Listening to the youtube pt. 2 & 3, Artie never actually SAYS “I Quit”, he just says, “I gotta go”. That could mean, I gotta leave early TODAY…
He does have a work ethic, so I predict he’ll come back just long enough to give a ‘two week notice’ or slightly longer till they figure out how to ‘fill the chair’.
