Howard and Beth have been down here in Florida all week for their vacation. They’re staying at a hotel where I’ve been staying for a wedding. I actually had a chance to talk a bit with Howard at the pool…I knew to keep it short and “normal”…and he actually spent some time talking to me. He doesn’t want to see Artie go, but he said Artie decided that he can’t do the show any more…it’s just too much of a drain on him and he can barely wake up in the mornings. Artie said it just keeps getting worse and worse, and the blow ups are a sign that he’s reached the end. He’ll be there Monday to do a pleasant final farewell….then gone.

He’s obviously upset about the situation, I could see it in his face when he talked about it. There was pain and sadness in his facial expressions….he sounded like it wasn’t what he wanted but he wasn’t able to do anything about it. As for him talking about it, I don’t think he’s treating it like it’s a big mystery like everyone else is. I think he’s in vacation mode and not focused on it…not in drama mode like the Howard 100 News people are. He left NYC last Friday and he’s been at the pool every time I’ve been there…so he’s not on the phone all day or online.

Just to clear things up, I haven’t spoken to anyone about this situation who isn’t connected to the show.
Artie will be with us until his contract expires, unless he renews his contract. Mel and I know how much he brings to the show, and how much of a raise he deserves.
Anyone who doesn’t like Artie should think about changing the channel, because he isn’t going anywhere, and you aren’t a real fan.

Howard’s a sharp guy, he wouldn’t put any focus on money when addressing an issue where money has no role. 2nd, he’d never say “…and you aren’t a real fan.” He might tell someone they have the option to tune out, or tell someone they have the right to enjoy whatever part of the show that they enjoy
…but he’s not going to qualify anyone who doesn’t like Artie as somone who’s not a real fan.

As far as I know, nobody’s been able to talk to Howard, Fred, Gary and Robin. They’re not answering calls or emails, besides, I think everyone knows it’s better to stay away from them right now. Well, OK, Ralph has talked to them, but he’s not saying anything about what he knows. Artie’s been around, and he says he’ll be back on Monday. I have no idea what that means. That’s all I know.

First of all you can’t compare Artie to AJ Benza. Although the incidents are relatively the same, AJ wasn’t an integral part of the show. He was a fill-in. Secondly to all who want Jackie back…forget the old adage that you can’t go home again, the show has moved on without him…but what everybody forgets is that Jackie was the writer. He did not do what Artie did. If you bring Jackie back you have to get rid of Benjy. I love Artie but alot of his stories and references have become repetitious. He repeats himself and his jokes an awful lot. The guy needs to clean up both mentally of physically. He’s never gotten over Dana but can’t give in to what she wants. He’s still getting laid and booking $75,000 gigs per night. What incentive is there for him to stop destroying himself. He needs to lose something or be taken away from something that allows this lifestyle to continue. There are alot of companies that fire people for Artie’s behavior but still others that offer an ultimatum. Go to rehab or counseling or you’re fired. This is what Artie needs.

TLNJ, you can’t force an addict into rehab if they don’t want to. Just like you can’t stop him from eating. Howard has said it many times that he is not responsible for Artie getting healthy mentally and physically, that’s up to him. All Artie has to do is show up and do his job which he certainly seems to be doing. On days when he falls asleep, howard expoits it and makes a funny bit out of it. So there is no grounds on which he should be fired. He is doing his job. He’s not late and doesn’t miss excessive days, that is all that is expected of him. He certainly is funny when he is on his game.

I’m sorry but Jackie was never funny. Listen to his CD’s and shows. He has a humor of a 12 year old kid and the jokes are long and boring and rarely has a funny ending. I don’t understand why anyone would think he was funny. The only co-host that was funny (besides Artie who is the best) was Billy West. However even then with him the impersonations began sounding alike after a while (Larry Fine, AL Michaels etc) and stopped being funny. Artie is the best because the few lines he contributes are usually really funny. Everything about him is funny, his weight, eating, his stories everything.

I agree with you James but as long as people are laughing at your stories of how screwed up you are I don’t think it’s going to change him. I hope he can do it on his own and I think the guy can. The only problem is I don’t think his prospects of he leaves the show are that bright. He did have a good movie career before he balooned up to 300 lbs. but I don’t know about now. The show would definitely be harmed. I think Artie shouldn’t be reaplced if he goes. Open up Fred’s mike more and have the rest of the crew drop keep droping in during the day. Artie’s too tough an act to follow.

Artie’s bullshit has gone on too long.
After hearing the John spotlight, it made me realize how long Artie’s actually been on the show.
The Artie we all love was the super-fan of the show who had great respect for Howard and the show.
In the last 6 months, he cant manage to get through the day without either skipping the show, falling asleep, alienating a charity group, or throwing shit at someone.
He’s not been targeted. He’s not misunderstood. He’s not a puppet being controlled by Howard. Least of all, he’s NOT A REGULAR GUY.
He’s a millionaire drug addict jerk off.
All Stern fans have been disrespected by the physical outbursts in the studio. If he does stay on the show, its gonna be the Dont-Fuck-On-Artie-To-Hard Show, which is such a piss poor excuse for the Howard Stern Show.
I think Artie’s funny, but not so funny that I want the show compromised just so he can stay and goof on Howard for watching ‘Dancing with the Stars’.
