  1. ☆Ponyboy☆ Says:

Howard inviting Sal to his wedding further proves the point that everything on the show is complete and utter bullshit. Everything you hear is a ‘bit’, even Artie’s alleged sobriety, or lack thereof. When they can’t book a halfway decent guest…they beat up on a staffer for a while. Yawn.

  2. Gus Says:

I truly don’t mean this in a smart-ass or asshole way, but if you think the show is “complete and utter bullshit” and they can’t book “a halfway decent guest”, why the fuck are you still listening?

  3. MattySprings Says:

    ^^^^
    agreed

  4. brownstoner Says:

Hey Ponyboy, Opie and Anthony are accepting listeners. The show is what it is get used to it

  5. Crash Says:

I like the show, but I also don’t agree that fans should just bite the pillow if they don’t like somehing just because it is Howard Stern. Stern is human and not every single thing that he says or does is brilliant.

  6. Kevin Says:

You’re all just pissed ’cause not enough waxing went down for your sick taste! By the way, impressive display of wrestling knowledge by Fred this morning!!

  7. Clemenza Says:

Most of you may not want to hear it; however Ponyboy is correct to an extent. This show is a mere shadow of what is once was.

First, the show has way too many people associated with it. It now takes forever for Fred to read all of the plugs at the end of the show. If it gets any longer, they are going to have to take a commercial break in the middle of the end of show plugs.

Second, most of the individuals that get air time are not funny and add nothing to the show.
    i.e.
    Artine Lange
    Sal the “dago” stock broker
    Richard Christy
    Benji
Add all of the other show staff members that make gratuitous appearances now and then.

Also, nobody cares about the faux homo-erotic antics of Sal and Richard. People started to not care when the count went past oh, say 100 or so!

During the prime of the show, the primary focus of the show was the good lineup of guests and secondarily about the day to day experiences of the show cast members (Howard, Robin, Fred, Jackie and John.)

Howard had the array of Whack pack members but their appearances where nowhere near frequency of today. Sometimes less is more.

Third, how many times can we hear Howard ask a guest about anal? (see . . . People started to not care when the count went past oh, say 100 or so!)

Here is the simple fact regarding Howard’s show. Despite satellite radio, a new studio and a $500 million contract, it is not as good or funny as it used to be.

The prime run of this show was somewhere around 1988 to 2001. Don’t believe me, just listen when the play the old shows from this time period. For example, are you to tell me that Artie and Sal arguing is anything near any of the Dice vs. Kinnison incidents? Or any of the contentious interviews that stuttering John did for that matter? I think not. The old adage is true, “Nothing good lasts forever.”

So here’s a bit of free advice to Howard. Get out soon while you can still catch a glimpse over your shoulder of what the show once was. Unfortunately, the best has already come and gone and is fading away quickly behind you.

Sorry to rain on the parade folks, but sometimes candor can be an unpleasant guest. In the meantime, do as I do and wait for the specials featuring the old stuff.

    P.S. F – Jackie

The Stern show may not be what it once was (I don’t think the show has ever been the same since Jackie left) but it still, hands down, no shadow of a doubt, beats the living piss out of any other show out there.

  9. artiefan Says:

Clemenza makes a good point and Fink, you are right as well… what else is there?

I do think when the show first came over to satellite.. actually even last year i thought was pretty good.. this year has been pretty blah..

True, but that reflects more on content of the competition as opposed to the quality of the current Stern show.

Hopefully, most of the specials that have run recently, (i.e Dracula Gottfried meets the Whack Pack, and the tributes to the former show members, ect.) will make their way onto either audio CD’s or possibly DVD since a lot of this stuff was shown on either the E-Channel or the old WOR 9 broadcasts.

I know I would be interested.

  11. TaTaToofy Says:

Absolutely the WORST part of the show is when they have hot chicks/porn stars in the studio for ANY reason, but especially stupid, unfunny games/contests. They typically drag on for way too long and who gives a shit who gives a fuck. Even on HTV, the chicks are rarely as hot as they say on the radio, and they are NEVER EVER funny. Sex on radio was titilating and erotic in 1981; now it is BORING.

Best? When they are all just sitting around BS’ing about the news or just life in general.

Artie has jumped the shark. Sal and Richard should stay OFF the air and just do bits, which is what they do best.

  12. 0.0 Says:

I think Sal and Richard are just exaggerated characters and just a put on for the most part. The Sal character is genius and deserves his own show

  13. 0.0 Says:

I do agree that the hot chick on radio bit is lame and outdated.I get nothing from it.

  14. mattias Says:

i can’t believe elephant boy is turning 50. that makes me feel old.

  15. Florida Booey Says:

I will believe Sal is at the wedding when Sal is at the wedding.

  16. artiefan Says:

I love women… but i gotta agree, the worst part of the show is when “hot chicks” are on the show… half the time they arent even that great.

  17. Fink Says:

I love the hot chick interviews, the only thing that sucks about them is that when I see the pictures at the end of the day on the website, they never seem to be “hot”. I guess they need to butter them up to get the m to open up. The show always does great interviews, one of the best things about it.

Anytime the show has Gilbert Gotfried or George Takei, it is required listening. Those shows are always the best.

And to say that the Stern show is only the best thing out there because all the other shows suck is a bit of a disservice to the overall quality of the Stern Show. I mean to say that the Celtics won this year only because all the other teams sucked, its kind of an insult to the team…
