Howard Stern Show – 7/14/09

Tuesday’s show

- Artie is now going to therapy 3 days a week. He admitted that he has cried in therapy.

- HBO Sports president Ross Greenburg commented on Artie’s Joe Buck Live appearance, “We should have had one of those old-style hooks or, as Joe said, a trapdoor. Probably we should have kicked him off. In retrospect, we certainly should never have let that overtime segment happen. That magnified it. Looking back at the actual show it wasn’t nearly as disastrous as the overtime. That became fodder for the Internet, so that magnified the problem.” Source and more

In other show news:

- Andrea “Miss Howard Stern” Ownbey was in a car accident over vacation. The car she was driving hit a telephone pole at 60mph. She was ejected out of the car and cracked her skull. After a 6 hour surgery, she now has a metal plate in her head. Her sister, Brandy, called in this morning. Sounded just like her.

- David Arquette called in this morning. He is working with Snickers to help feed America.

- Howard continues talk from yesterday about leaving radio at the end of his contract. He says that he would want to only work 2 days a week and summers off. But who knows what will change his mind by then.

  1. Wow – today’s show is already so much better than yesterday’s. BG sounds a little out of it.

  2. Don'tBringBackJackie says:

morning Elvis/AF…everyone that comes on later

yeah BG sounds like he’s slurring a little bit…but I’m sure Benjy and Fred will hug him later and tell him how “he killed” and Gary told BG if the “show gets boring , slur your words”

i came in late, any guest announced for today?

  3. not that I’ve heard. it may be a no guests day.

better show today but Artie does sound slurred.

  4. robins boob sweat says:

Funny how know it all howie’s first guess at 3 cubed was 9. Wrong! Wow making fun of homeless people is even more fun when we realize we’re as stupid as they are!

  5. artiefan says:

I still dont know what 3 cubed is. LOL

  6. my SAT math score was 760 — and my first thought was 9, not 27.

proof that drugs are bad ummm kay.

  7. robins boob sweat says:

Granted 3 cubed is not an easy one, just funny that howie got it wrong instantly. A bit tricky for non-homeless. Woulda’ been funnier if the homeless guy got it. They should just stop doing jay walking…I mean homeless game.

  8. @robins boob sweat – agreed!

Am I the only one troubled by the respect I have for David Arquette?

  9. Saw this great looking Dominican chick wearing a white see-through and she didn’t have nothing on underneath and i thought THAT was an anomaly…gonna have to carry my digital camera around from now on:)

  10. artiefan says:

And what the fuck does that have to do with anything?

  11. Howard was talking about how Beth went to the club and that’s the latest trend dick breath:D

You SHOULD get up earlier in the A.M….gotta go to work now

  12. jeff says:

Not only do we get another boring Homeless game this morning…..but they used the same questions they used the week before their vacation.

  13. artiefan says:

I’ve been listening since 6:10. I heard that segment but I tend to space out alot during the show.

  14. Jackie Puppet says:

I thought Howard has only been working 2 days a week and taking the summers off….what is he thinking??!!

Show sucks anymore. I’m tired of the same old, same old.

  15. Sal Monella says:

Did they mention if Miss Howard Stern was drunk? I missed that part of the show?

  16. Long Time First Time says:

Sal, I heard most of the segment with Miss HS’s sister. I don’t think Howard actually asked if she was drunk (but I was getting my act together to leave for work so maybe I missed it). Still, just based on past experience with her, I would bet the farm that she was drunk. The only interesting thing about that segment was that her sister has the exact same high-pitched, cartoon-character voice.

By the way, I am going on record as calling “bullshit” on Artie’s claim to be seeing his therapist 3 times per week. Everything he says about his therapy does not ring true to me… and, frankly, I am usually pretty darn gullible when it comes to falling for the B.S. peddled by good liars. For one thing, for somebody with as many serious, deep-seated issues as Artie has, therapy is going to be very heavy with some hardcore, painful discussions. Just by the nature of those kinds of discussions, it would be quite normal for somebody to occasionally hate their therapist and really dread going to therapy sessions. Artie keeps claiming that he loves the guy and the guy loves him. Either he is full of it, or he lays on the couch and talks about the Yankees for an hour every day.

  17. Alpharaider says:

    Good find, Sal!

Regarding the homeless game, awhile back when the cubed question was asked Genius Robin said a cube has FOUR sides………..dumbass.

  18. Darek in OrLangedo says:

Maybe Artie just sounded slurred b/c it was 6am. I heard the news and he sounded fine.

  19. mqone says:

I hate to say it but I think Howard should retire at the end of his contract. Between his four day work week and his 8 weeks of vacation he has single handedly put himself in the who gives a shit category. It took two weeks for him to comment on Micheal Jackson now he wants to work only two day a week with the whole summer off- Bullshit. And the worst part of it is that we the fans pay for that now. I can see when he was on regular radio I would not care but for us the fans to pay for him to take all this time off is a slap in the face.
For all the people out there in this shitty economy who work 5,6,7 days a week to listen to this asshole say he only wants to work two days a week is such a slap in the face.
He is completely out of touch and need to GO

  20. Alpharaider says:

Anybody else think it’s lame for Howie to continue to say Courtney Cock? It wasn’t funny to start with and now it’s just stupid.

  21. Darek in OrLangedo says:

Howard worked 5-7 days a week most of his career so he wouldn’t have to when he was in his mid 50’s. Most people with even a tenth of Howard’s money would say F it and take 365 days a year off.

  22. Gary Puppet says:

I want to blow the Jackie Puppet, boss.

  23. Long Time First Time says:

Alpha: I agree on the Courtney Cock joke. I didn’t think it was particularly funny the first time he did it, and it has gotten progressively less funny in the 15 +/- years since then. In spite of that, I have to admit that I did laugh this morning when David Arquette responded to it by congratulating Howard on his recent marriage to “Beth Sperm”. Maybe that will finally convince Howard that its time to drop it.

  24. Alpharaider says:

Yea, that was funny-Arquette lobbin’ a shot back at him!

  25. Sal Monella says:

    hmmm.

  26. Sal Monella says:

Howard is quitting Sirius and broadcasting over HAM or Shortwave radio from his home.

  27. Cupcake says:

    over it.

  28. robins boob sweat says:

Well howie certainly isn’t gonna add any hours to his week, so I think he is like an aging slugger. Stil has the mojo to put asses in the seats (make money), and probably looking for a final fat pay day. Its not crazy talk to believe the right deal on terrestrial could bring him back. But I can only see him signing a 2 or 3 year deal this time.

Yea, always thought the courtney “cock” thing was barely funny.

  29. Blue Iris' Vagina says:

Howie can walk away anytime he wants, but damn….the worst part of your job is getting up at 4:00 am? Should someone remind the douchebag that he is the one who chose to continue to do mornings? I could see right at the start, but as soon as the replay concept became acceptable why didn’t the old loser just go to afternoons? Just a thought, get tired of his bitching

  30. Jokeman says:

Even though the show is at its worst, I’ll still hate when Stern walks away in a year

  31. Alpharaider says:

I see you learned from your timeout, Jokeman ;-)

  32. Jokeman says:

I’m trying my best, but its hard as you know I have great material but I’ll use it some where else like Jackie on Broadway or Joke Hunt Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeheeeeehaa

  33. artiefan says:

Jokeman, it wasn’t whether or not you were funny. It was just irrelevant spamming

  34. @alpharaider -> lots of great tweets from http://twitter.com/howardsternexam if you are on twitter (saw the tradio clips early yesterday)

@cupcake -> great insight in just a couple of words. reminds me of the faked suicide note in “Heathers” and completely appropriate :-)

I thought that David Arquette’s “beth sperm” thing was the perfect response to Howard’s annoyance. Glad it is a slow guest week because I enjoyed DA’s appearance and the reminder that people are hungry.

I was surprised that nobody called in to ask what Dr. Sarno would say about Howard’s neck –> i think the BG’s shit is bothering him deeply.

Enjoyed today’s show tho, after yesterday’s complete waste of time.

  35. Sal Monella says:

Where is Elliot Offen you beef stews???

  36. Long Time First Time says:

I have no doubt that Howard will be back for at least one more contract. I highly doubt that it will be for a 5-year deal. I also doubt that it would be with the same schedule he has now (say something like 3 days per week and/or a few more weeks vacation scattered through the year). This is an easy one for two reasons:

(1). Sirius is DOOMED without him. In order to stay viable they MUST keep the customers they have AND keep signing up new ones. Right now, there are only two potential groups of new customers for Sirius: New car buyers who get a satellite radio in their car and Stern fans who are willing to jump through hoops and pay real money to hear Howard. With the economy in the toilet, NOBODY is buying cars these days and it might be a year or two before sales starting picking up considerably so Sirius is not going to be helped there. It is only via Stern fans and the promise of a few more years of Howard that they can keep the customers they have AND sign new ones.

(2). Howard cannot bear to leave money on the table. I am sure of it. After watching his dad work like a dog for decades and only have a meager nest egg and an old house to show for it in his retirement, Howard has no concept of “I now have more than enough money”. Sirius absolutely needs him and they will have no choice but to offer him the moon and the stars, and Howard will be incapable of passing it up.

Since he can’t pass up the money, he will do his bargaining in his work conditions, which is why I guarantee he will be paid more to work less in the new deal…. and I suspect that the new deal will be up by his 60th birthday. After spending all those years making fun of old fossils like Imus and Larry King who hang on forever as they get older and more enfeebled, I cannot imagine that he will be willing to become one of them for any price.

Just to be clear, I have no inside information and this is pure speculation. Still, once I am proven correct, I will be available to play weddings, bar mitzvahs and cable news shows for a price. lol

  37. Alpharaider says:

I think it’s funny as hell that Saint Beth took off to a club after Grand Dad snuck off to bed and didn’t even wake him to tell him she was going. Yea-that marriage is a sham. She’s waitin’ for a payday-after gramps leaves the airwaves she’s gonna get sick of his boring ass hangin’ around the house all day and she’ll move him out.

  38. Sal Monella says:

Yeah LTFT, no one has money to buy $100 dollar radios. Their $50 dollar radios are so basic, no one will buy those either.

  39. Jokeman says:

Howard will be divorced in two years max

  40. Sara says:

yeah, i wonder how long until beth realizes how much fun she could be having. as for howard leaving, i can see him becoming some bizarre recluse. and if he does that, beth will be out the door.

i think his parents should be given a show. i would be glued to my radio

  41. @Sara -> Howard Stern could easily become JD Salinger

  42. Sara says:

@ elvis–either that or howard hughes!!!

  43. Sara says:

    howard HHHHHUUUUUUUGGGGGGGHHHHHHEEEEEESSSSSSSS

  44. Kristin says:

I hate how the radio show is increasingly becoming a mere promotional tool for ‘Howard TV’. I can’t get Howard TV, as I have DirecTV, but I don’t think I should have to pay more just to get the full Howard Stern ‘experience’. A lame bit like ‘Cockioki’ is a perfect example of what I’m talking about. The bit, which was way overhyped, was pretty much unfit for radio. Everyone in the studio was laughing and yelling over each other, plus, let’s face it, the whole meat of the bit (pun intended) was entirely visual.

@Long Time First Time – nice post, but try to stay away from phrases like “I guarantee” especially because…well…you don’t “guarantee” anything. I happen to disagree with most of your latest post, but that is neither here nor there. I personally immediately disregard anyone as serious who uses the phrase “I guarantee”, but that’s my humble opinion. Don’t mean to offend.

  45. Alpharaider says:

Howie has BECOME his mother-he’s always talkin’ about tellin’ her to watch her step, she’s gonna get hurt, they shouldn’t have a two story house-they’re gonna fall down the stairs, etc……….FEH!

Hermit-I mean Howard-doesn’t like to travel and won’t leave the country, doesn’t like to go out, has to go to bed early, even days off. Jesus, if Beth is already sneakin’ out to go hang with her pals at clubs now who knows what she’ll be sneakin’ out to do after the old fart digs his heels in at home.

  46. Darek in OrLangedo says:

I agree about the divorce. Look at Billy Joel and his young skank. She wanted to go out all the time and be a hot, young socialite in Manhattan, and he just wanted to sit on his ass and drive drunk occasionally. Granted Beth is 7 or so years older than Katie Lee and Howard is 5 younger than Joel…but close enough.

  47. Darek in OrLangedo says:

I was perusing through USA Today a minute ago. Sports section mentioned how Joe Buck during the all-star game is going to interview Obama in the bottom of the 2nd inning. It then said that comedian Artie Lange went crazy and completely hijacked his HBO show (I’m paraphrasing) and they asked Buck if he was worried about that with Barrack. To which Joe of course replied he wasn’t too worried about that type of display from the Pres.

Anyway–nice little mention of Baby G in the paper if you get a chance to check it out.

  48. Darek in OrLangedo says:

Thanks for the pic E. haha. She is a looker.

Finally found what I was talking about on USA Today online…

Buck says “the last thing I’d ever do” is go into politics between calling balls and strikes. Instead, Buck might ask the First Fan — in banter he hopes will be “light and fun” and “respectful” — who he rooted for while growing up in Hawaii, or ask for his favorite sports memories.

Buck last month debuted his HBO show, and comedian Artie Lange got out of control and essentially hijacked the program. Buck chuckled when asked if he’s afraid of the president asserting such unchecked power: “I’m confident that won’t happen.”

  49. Long Time First Time says:

How long before Fox or USA Network is peddling “Judge Blanket” as their hot new show?

By the way, I’ve only heard about 1/2 of the show so far today, but I agree with all who have pointed out that it is MUCH better today than yesterday. I suspect that, much like me after a vacation, everybody was still a little bit out of things yesterday and, today, they are back on a semi-even keel. Whatever the reason, they’ve had me laughing out loud several times already.

  50. Jokeman says:

I agree with Long Time First Time the show today was much better than yesterday with the Artie bullshit and the awful Bruno interview, don’t get me wrong I think Howard is the best interviewer of all time but he seem to be asking pre scripted questions and who didn’t see Sal & Richard coming in to show thier cocks out, and today with Richard singing into Sal’s Cockaphone, I mean C’mon go call Tradio

  51. robins boob sweat says:

Just to throw them a few bones, the michael jackson thing had to be discussed, but reality is it wasn’t the HSS fault he croaked the day they split for vacation. Bad timing. Howard HAD to discuss it and I liked when he discussed how weird it was meeting mj.

Additionally, while I agree with LTFT, its gonna be interesting to see if Sirius will be able to afford howard again. I mean they got him, they got the merger, and the stock is still shit. If howard is their only meal ticket, where are they in 5 years? Mel has got to give non-howard listeners better reasons to pony up. I’m not a marketing guru, but that’s how I see it.

  52. artiefan says:

I dunno…. i only listened to about half or more of the show today. I guess there is a reason i didnt listen to the full show.

  53. florida booey says:

Howard Stern stopped “doing radio” the moment he signed the Sirius contract.

His time at Sirius has been a joke. I’m sorry. Throw whatever numbers you want up, he’s been stealing since day one.

The caller on the wrap-up show said it best today that when your best material now consists of cockeoke or whatever they called it, it’s ballgame.

  54. florida booey says:

Would anybody else agree with the argument that Howard has, in effect, become an X-rated John DeBella? Has Cupcake Wednesday replaced Hawaiian Shirt Friday? Has “When I See Beth Smiling” become his “Louie, Louie”?

  55. Jokeman says:

I agree its sad that the best material on the show is a hick singing into a hack’s cock

  56. Ian Do It says:

It was sad to hear about Andrea. I hope she pulls through.

  57. Daethian says:

I’m just relieved that the only person harmed by Andrea’s destructive lifestyle is her…. well her and her kid I guess but I mean more specifically this accident. Her whole plan to get through life on her looks is sure to fail if she keeps slamming head first into poles. Thank bob she wasn’t relying on her intelligence to get her through.
