Granted, one of those days was a holiday.
Artie text’d Gary this morning with the following message:
Gar, did not have relapse, got sick coming back on plane, don’t wanna to get anyone else sick. Need the weekend. See you Monday.
Howard joked that he thought “Gar” meant, Got A Relapse.
Well I am not sure he is sick, but maybe depressed due to his birthday marks the same age his dad was when he died. For Artie I wish ya the best
I would think artie would be smarter than that. Everyone would know that the dad excuse would be the easier way to point out a relapse. I think artie is sick. everyone in my work and train are sick and are all too stupid to stay at home.

Not to sound insensitive, but his dad’s been dead long enough that he shouldn’t require a three day vacation from work. He’s also supposedly been going to a shrink, which should help in situations like this.
The whole thing reeks. it’s too bad.
Sometimes I think the dad issues are more of an excuse, I mean, becoming an addict isn’t necessarily a symptom of other underlying issues. The act of overcoming the addiction entails dealing with issues but some people do drugs just because it’s fun and feels good and then end up with a bad addiction they don’t want to or don’t know how to break.
welp, i’m realizing Artie is truly the main reason i listen to the show, bc i haven’t laughed nearly as much this week.
WAAAAAH i’m sick, need 10 frickin’ days off – get back to work Artie, i’ve worked longer hours with pneumonia, and i’m a broad!
To be fair (and because I work with lots of medical professionals) if Artie was exposed to the flu within the last couple of weeks, H1N1 or otherwise, he could have started feeling sick on the plane. If he does have the flu he’s doing everyone a favor by not coming to work and spreading it. Considering Benji was out sick for more than a week it wouldn’t be a stretch to say he gave the flu to Artie.
The fans are already sick of all the vacation the staff takes. Now on top of the 10 weeks vacation you got Artie missing work every time some milestone in his life pops up. If this was Fred or Scott missing this much work, Howard would be busting their balls to no end. Didn’t he break em for Scott last year when he had to take off for his hernia operation? Yet Artie can miss work without penalty.
I give Artie credit. He really has worked them all over to the point where they are afraid to bust his balls. Go back to work you fat junkie.
@Alpha – that is if we are to assume he’s actually sick…and shouldn’t he be saying he’s going to make a doc appt by now?
Artie is not sick, come on people he is on drugs. He got a DUI at 12 in the afternoon. You don’t get DUI’s for being sober, especially when you have the money Artie has and can afford any attorney out there. Be serious the guy is funny but he is out of work cause he is on a binge…
It’s interesting that he texted “Did not have a relapse”. True or not? Why do I worry about Artie like he is a member of my own family?

Hey-just playin’ devil’s advocate. I hope he’s not using but the odds aren’t good. My stepdaughter OD’d on H Monday and is already back at it-if Artie went back out he made it longer than most junkies.

He is back on the H. There are only two things that will keep Artie off H for good: 1. Death. 2. Having to blow a dude for H and then killing himself. For his sake, I hope he just dies. I could see Artie’s father beating the crap out of him in heaven for blowing a guy…..

As a recovering addict myself, I have to say it is not encouraging. But Artie can not win with this one in either case. If he relapsed, well he’s doing what we’d expect – blowing off his responsibilities. If he’s really sick and he could be actually sick, then nobody will give him the benefit of the doubt because he’s destroyed his credibility.
Its amazing that anyone believes artie is sick as in “I got a bad flu don’t want to infect anyone” sick. Seems more like those who do just want that to be true.
Any other job would have canned this guy already. All this junkie needs to do is 20 hours a week, basically just goofing off, and he gets paid well to do it, and HE CAN’T! Pathetic!!
The HSS should watch a few episodes of the show Intervention, grow some balls, and drop the hammer on this guy. Drop him now.

Arthur can’t win. I he came to work and was actually sick, Howard would be freaking out on him. Unfortunately, he has little credibility left when he misses a day. If he comes back at the end of the week(which he didn’t) Howard and Robin will hint that he’s back to plug an upcoming gig. Why can’t we all just be more like Fred?
Well, Artie already admitted that every time he called out sick in the past, he wasn’t really sick, so now suddenly we’re supposed to believe he is really sick this time? Fool me once… I mean, he certainly may be sick but anyone who gives him the benefit of the doubt is nothing but an enabler.
If he was really sick, he could have his chick take a video with a cellphone and send it into the show, or just call into the show, do something that let’s people know you’re coherent but just sick. He doesn’t do any of that, nothing but voicemail and text messages.
Come on now and give Artie the benefit of the doubt. He has pulled stuff like this in the past but he has been trying hard and maybe he is really sick. You all want to see him fail. Maybe he is having girl trouble. That has happened before. He is really happy with his girlfriend and probably could not stand a breakup right now. Why do you all want the worse for him? Your jokes are not funny. You are not Artie.. they come off as moronic.

This is a guy who was supposedly on the right track, looking and acting healthier, to all of a sudden be stricken with a sickness where he can’t sit at a microphone (only 3 days this week!) for a few hours, this just reeks of bullshit!
We’re not talking about a high stress or physically demanding job here. Crissakes the guy gets a driver to bring him to work every day!
The last time anyone in my family took more than a week off of work, they were going through. chemotherapy. You get the sniffles, you take one day, not a week.
Barring cancer, and based on past history, you’re foolish to think artie is not lying (again).

I do not wish Artie to be using drugs again, but my personality is such that I am not an enabler. If someone tells me that the every single time they’ve called off in the past that they weren’t really sick and were presumably taking drugs, then I’m sure as hell not going to believe them the next time they do it.
Look, I don’t fault Artie for taking sick days, I’m sure he’s earned it and it’s obviously not a problem that effects his employment. But believing he’s just really sick this time is a reflection of your own personality flaws. There’s no way anyone should believe him. He has NOT earned that.
“Come on Now”, If Artie wants to play up that he’s a ‘regular guy’ then start acting like it. No one in the real world gets to take a week off when they have a bad breakup or are depressed (we can barely take off when were sick). He’s a premadonna who everyone baby’s because they’re afraid if they criticize him he’ll start using again. He’s a typical junkie; manipulate the people who care about you and keep finding excuses for your bad behavior (depressed over my father’s death, breakup with Dana, blah blah). Everyone has issues and tragedies to deal with but most of us ‘regular guys’ dont become fat selfish junkies.
