Artie’s Sick: Day 4, Week 2

If there was ever a time to “Save Artie Lange“, that time would be now. We have now entered Week 2 of Artie’s absence.

A text was sent to Gary explaining on what was going. “Artie’s got a lot of drama going on and we’re right in there with him”, said Howard. According to the note, it is not drugs. Neither Howard nor Gary knew if the text was for public display. Howard handed the note over to Robin to review for her opinion on whether or not to read it on air.

Robin reacted with an “Oh wow” upon reading it. The Queen of Mean actually silenced? Must be sensitive material. Howard said that he actually thought that [content of the note] was going on. Robin added, “but that’s what everything is about anyway.” She added, “I thought there was something being given to prevent that.” Then she asked Howard, “Have you ever just wanted to stay home?”

So what does this all mean? Depression? Father Issues? Still Drugs? Rehab? Girlfriend stuff? A-Rod producing in the post-season?

What DO YOU think?

Howard said he kind of didn’t want to know what was going on. He didn’t want to make the phone call because it sounds like a long call. Way to be a “bro” or a friend Howard. Howard finally tired of Artie’s drama or is just the selfish, rich old man he looks like.

Update

Later, a caller said he thought it was clinical depression and immediately Howard and Robin starting saying they didn’t say that. Sounded like he might of hit the nail on the head.

Howard said he didn’t want to read the note because he said it sounds like its a story that Artie should tell.

Fred thought it was a nervous breakdown. Howard let him read Artie’s note and Fred said that confirmed his suspicions.

  1. artiefan says:

Does anyone think we have heard the last of Artie Lange?

  2. Chrissy says:

Robin also said “doesn’t he take something for that anyway?”
    My guess, drugs drugs drugs.
I think it’s time to let him go.
He’s not missed by me, and yes, I’m jealous that he just shows up to chime in and share his life drama for what, my guess, $300-$400K a year, and that worthless book goes to number one and a possible grammy???
I also have zero tolerance for addicts anyway.
    Weak.

  3. Jason Sewell says:

Gotta be clinical depression. All the subsequent talk about “just can’t get out of bed…”

  4. dkleefarnsworth says:

    I THINK HE’LL B OK.AFTER 28YEARS OF ADDICTION,IM CLEAN4 1/2 YRS N IM OK.ITS NOT EASY THO DOABLE

  5. artiefan says:

Thanks for reminding me, Chrissy. I totally forgot to add that part.

I think he was taking stuff for anxiety/depression. He wasn’t taking subutex the last we heard, so it wouldn’t be drugs, right?

  6. artiefan says:

And then Robin asked Howard: Dont you ever just want to stay home? That sounds like depression to me.

  7. tomlovesartie says:

No matter what is going on with Artie, I will always feel compassion for the man. We ALL have deep dark secrets we hord. But Artie has been courageous enough to share his brutal past; and he has never once claimed to be flawless. He’s human. Like the rest of us. Artie needs to know we support him right now. At least I know I do! Artie, I deeply understand addiction. You have a huge heart, and you are always giving to others. Feel better soon.
    Tom

  8. mare19 says:

I think it’s depression. And I really miss him. The show does not have the same dimension without him. I miss hearing his comments.

  9. Holly says:

DRUGS! Prevent that……….heroin again. Cant be anything other than drugs.
He can come back to the show, I would guess, if he gets treatment.
I bet the family wrote the text considering it would be read on the air, dammit!

  10. dainty says:

Artie turned 42 last week. The same age when his father died. I think he is VERY depressed and he probably doesn’t feel “worthy”. He needs to talk this out. He needs to deal with the death of his Dad. Until then, Artie will be haunted by demons he can not see or touch. Artie IS a great guy, HE just has to KNOW he is too. I am so sorry for his hardship.

  11. Holly says:

And its not just 4 sick days. Considering the holiday, last week was a 3 day work week. Last week he was “off” Mon-Friday, weekend, and now today so far. Its addiction again. His birthday was recent…seems plausible he slipped. Dont forget the DUI too. Sleeping pills. So has he really been “clean”?
He will be back though. He’s integral in the show dynamic.

  12. JC's buddy says:

IF you knew Artie like I do you wouldn’t be so compassionate. ARtie s “on air” persona is what most of you have described but in the grand scheme of things”no pun intended” ARtie got his bodyguard fired and used him as a scapegoat for his last binge (In Vegas, yes that s where he relapsed)When he got home he told Stace and Mommy that JC gave him the drugs(which is totally untrue!) Artie is a COMPULSIVE LIAR with or without the shit… You people are alllllllllllllllllllll sheep if you think for one second that this lying sack of shit cares one stitch about any of you ORRRRRR his IMMEDIATE FAMILY around him. ARTIECARES ABOUT ARTIE annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd the big H, which I have another bulletin…Artie mostly is a pill popper

  13. Sounds like Artie’s hit THIS point:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YQWszrZHBPI

Reason why he cries at the man in the mirror is because he can’t face him…almost 20% of people in the tri-state area un or underemployed and po’ Artie can’t get up in the mornings and face the world? Waaaa

    MAN UP you baby gorilla

  14. Artieneedshelp says:

It’s not drugs. They already made that clear. Robin’s comment was in reference to him taking antidepressants to avoid depression/suicide. At the least it’s major depression kicking in hard, at the most he tried to commit suicide or is considering it deeply.

  15. JC's buddy says:

In addition he totaled his new Mercedes a week before the 4th of July weekend DWI incident,(fell asleep behind the wheel and hit fences and a tree, cops kept quiet because noone else involved) thats why he was driving a rental(Not the LIE he told about someone at the airport smashing into his car, YEAH sounds realllly believable that he wouldn t have been notified that an ‘09 Mercedes was smashed into lol)

  16. HackPack says:

3 words say it all…..SAVE BABY GORILLA

  17. artiefan says:

Holly, it is work Day 4. We don’t know when this started, so its the only accurate measurement to use. We all know the fucking show doesnt run 5 days a week

  18. JC's buddy says:

OKayyyyy Artieneedshelp there s a big beautiful bridge I have for sale that connects Staten Island and Brooklyn and giuess what pumpkin???? it s named “Artieneedshelp” would you like to buy it??

  19. JC's buddy says:

Again he slipped in Vegas first and continued thruout vacation, got DWI, lawyer told him to keep his nose clean until after the court date….He obviously couldnt do that so he rescheduled court date “3″ times and held it together for a couple of weeks and thats why the show sounded normal there for a few weeks. Artie hasn’t been clean and never will……….
My thinking is that all of the vacation time really hurts Art. No work, idle mind, and boredom is the devils workshop

  20. rocmon says:

who cares, nobody tunes in for Artie… I’d listen to Howard if he was calling the show from his bed on a crappy (AT&T) cell phone!

I wish Howard hangs in with the radio show until Larry King is finally pronounced dead! Howard will be the perfect replacement for that show… he should even keep the ‘The Larry King Show’ name and just guest host forever!

  21. Emily Cullen says:

My heart sunk when I heard Artie was not in. I definitely think he is too depressed to get out of bed or at least go in to work. I am depressed over the situation I am in and it is hard to do anything. I am in therapy and take meds…but it seems like he is stopped one or both according to what Robin said.

Yes, he makes a ton of money but that doesn’t mean things can’t be bad about his life. It doesn’t matter if you are rich or poor.

Get well, Artie. Most of us miss you!

  22. I used to do the same thing in high school. Miss 2 days and take off the whole week. Lotsa pot and Doritos. Sure he is in his 40’s but he never had to become a responsible adult the way most people do. No kids, plenty of money and lotsa love for all the wrong shit. I’m not saying it wouldn’t be a fun ride to get there, I just don’t know how he comes back or what that even means anymore.

  23. artiefan says:

JC- Artie didn’t reschedule his court date 3 times, it was like only once. The other time his lawyer appeared for negotiations.

  24. Zorba the Geek says:

Thanks JC. They mythologize this junkie like he’s a saint. Again I said it last week cut the chord.

  25. HackPack says:

can anyone verify if this JC is for real?

  26. miter benesdurty? says:

The best thing artie can do or maybe sirius can do is to leave the show. He obviously cannot handle the schedule at this point, for whatever reason. He keeps lying to himself and the world that everything is ok, and look at what’s happened. As much as his selfishness pisses me off, I do hope the guy straightens out his life. Maybe this is rock bottom?

  27. artiefan says:

JC is a real jack ass .. thats verified.

I think Miter might be right…. I think Artie needs to take some time off.

  28. JWEBSR says:

Who the hell cares anymore? I have had it with him for a long time now. And quite frankly, the show and Howard are much funnier without his tired old comments interrupting. The modern day show is pathetic compared to the old shows. Don’t believe me. Tune in when they are on their bi-weekly vacation and listen to the old tapes. Much more entertaining and a more fired up Howard. Having that lowlife chime in just makes Stern lazy. I hope they move on from Lange and he gets to see how tough life really is. I hope he enjoyed the shore house, the jet skis, the hot chick(who loves him for him, right?), and the $80,000 stand up paydays. They all go away when this gig does

  29. Arties Favorite Herpes Laced Hooker says:

I havent heard it yet, but what about swine flu? Wouldnt you want to stay home if you found out people around you were getting that? People that are overweight or bad immune systems are more susceptible to it. and with Robin saying, “I thought there was something being given to prevent that.” mean that there is a vaccine? Again this is from not hearing the show, so pardon me if they adressed it and it was shot down.

  30. @Chrissy -> try $1M — this has been discussed in the past
@Holly -> right, this is more like two weeks sick, it’s only 4 days in la-la land

    :-)

I miss Artie on the show. I’m not paying for the Howard & Robin show and if Artie’s gone, I’ll listen vicariously through you people …

  31. dainty says:

Where is his therapist in all this? After reading Arties book, I just bonded to him and feel protective over him. We all have issues and some of us handle it better than others. Artie is A GREAT guy. HE just has to figure this out. I know it cant be easy on him. Hes taken blame for things he didnt do. My heart goes out to him and his family. I pray he works thru this and doesnt fall off the wagon. Drugs will only make things worse. Hes been trying to numb himself for years with drugs, maybe time he tries another technique.

Artie we love ya** Hang in there buddy* Reach out for help from someone **

  32. Mahatma Gonad says:

Hate to say it, but the show has been just as funny without him. I’d prefer him to be back on the show, of course, but not until he gets his act together. He has got to go get focused help for as long as it takes.

  33. Richard's Unused Toothbrush says:

Whether Artie is currently using or not, he will always be a ‘junkie’. And junkies lie and manipulate those around them with tall tales and sob stories to justify their awful behavior. Whatever excuse was in that message that Howard read today, it is obvious that he isn’t physically ill (unless its withdrawl). So he basically lied last week when he said he was ’sick’. I honestly think Howard has washed his hands of this whole mess. He cant help Artie, (his own mother and sister cant do that). Whether he’s popping pills, clinically depressed or back on H, he AINT at work doing what made him famous and earned him millions of dollars. Hes the only one who can help himself. All we can do is watch him implode

  34. Tammy says:

Every time Artie has an “issue” it turns into such a HUGE DRAMA!!! He knows damn well that he works for ANAL & ANDREA who show up for work ON TIME, EVERY SINGLE DAY (on the days that they are actually working anyway). If he knows he’s going to be out for a period of time, don’t do the one day at a time “sick day” call in crap. Pick up the phone, CALL HOWARD AT HOME, and tell him what the hell is going on (we’re going to find out anyway!!!!!) … then be out for a month!!! I’m sure it’s heavy duty depression, over his Father. God Bless You Artie! xoxo

  35. artiefan says:

And yet Howard wont call Artie either.

  36. FeeFi&FoFum says:

There was a call to the show a week or so ago, it was the cop that was there when Artie was being booked. He alluded to ’something else’ in his system and asked Artie if he wanted to say what it was, then quickly agreed with Artie that it wasnt ‘illegal’.

Whatever this other substance was, is most likely the cause of the missing days. I would assume, if he was taking Anti-Depressants that they could show up in a piss test, who knows. This might explain why he said it wasnt ‘illegal’.

However, knowing Artie was a junkie, my guess on the reality is this: Artie slipped and did some drugs again at some point in the past…He has been on Subutex again trying to get off it (i think someone also said Artie had ‘dry lips’) and thats what showed up on the piss test. Whatever is going on now is either Artie back on the horse, and the ‘drama’ is his family trying to get him off it again, thats why he is out. Robin’s silence and Fred’s subsequent verification of whats going on kinda makes me feel this is the case.

Howard and crew are acting a little too ‘up’ today…

  37. lindro says:

to the guy with zero tolerance for addiction, you will undoubtedly have someone in your family come upon it if you havent already. why dont you give a suggestion to people with that problem, just stop trying? jump off a bridge? because YOU have no humanity or feeling for someone with a disease you obviously know nothing about. Your the weak one. If it is drugs and my guess it is, you keep trying until you get it right. or die trying.

  38. HackPack says:

does anyone think artie was bullshitting with the “depression” text, just to cover the fact that he is probably going through a bender..if it was depression why wouldnt he have just told them that last week, and not some airplane sick story!! its obvious he is out due to drugs..he LIES so what makes everyone believe he is out because of depression!

  39. Joe Pickles says:

why does he only text? not even a curtiousy call? I’m thinking Drugs.

  40. Richard's Unused Toothbrush says:

artiefan says: “And yet Howard wont call Artie either.”
My boss doesn’t call me if I am out. That is MY responsibility as an employee to fill my boss in on what is going on. If I were Howard I wouldnt want to be put into a position of giving sympathy to Artie’s plight only to find out later that the excuse he used for his absence was a lie. Then Howard feels like a jackass. It actually makes it harder to come back to work the longer he’s out. It makes you not want to return to avoid the inevitable mocking and questioning that you know is going to occur with this long an absence. I like Artie on the show and hope he gets his act together. But there really isn’t anything anyone can do.

  41. artiefan says:

Remember the Bro Fight? Howard yelled at Artie for Artie not considering him a bro and Howard went on how he only lets a few people in his life… blah blah blah… but Howard doesnt care about people enough to get involved with people. Howard admitted it on the air this morning! He said its not his business to call people and see how they are doing.

  42. flsunman says:

Its time to end the drama. Sirius need to cut Artie loose and he need to be replaced. If as a result he pulls a ‘Lenny Bruce’ so be it. My comments may seem cold hearted but its all about business.

Move on with Greg Fitsimmons, Gilbert, anybody but lets move on. We all move on without Jackie!

  43. JWEBSR says:

If I was Howard, then I wouldn’t call Artie either. Most fans are sick of his nonsense and we are only listeners. The staff have to deal with him face to face. Howard is probably entering the “let’s move on” zone like he did with Jackie. Bad news for Artie. Howard is coming down the home-stretch towards ending his run. He wants to do so without this stupid drama. He has his own problems without babying Artie.

  44. Cupcake says:

how is everyone saying they are “done putting up with Artie?” last time i checked, we’re not his boss or here to hold him accountable for anything. everyone deals with their issues differently, and Artie has alot of issues.

part of what makes him so funny is the whole tortured-artist, f*cked up in the head thing – HELLO, that’s what makes most comedians funny so why are we surprised? if Sam Kinison or Mitch Hedberg, etc. etc. had been a regular on the show, don’t you think they’d have their share of sick days too? @ least Artie is still alive (for now).

Howard is a douche for not calling, not bc he’s a boss but bc he’s a friend (when it’s convenient) – guess he can’t be bothered.

i hope Artie works it out, the show vibe isn’t the same without him and it’s not as funny/=

  45. velveeta says:

i have never thought artie was funny and therefore, i am happy i don’t have to listen to his misongyistic and homophobic, inappropriate and unfunny pointless comments. thanx god howard has been keeping him in check more these days.
artie is a drug addict and speaking as a drug addict, he is not ever not going to be an active drug addict. whether it is heroin or script meds, he is using something.
you artie fans outthere, go read his book. he tells you everything you need to know in it.
i hope howard is at his end with artie and that we never have to hear his annoying voice interrupting a good moving interview ever again.

may artie die soon in the way he wants, od’ing on some drug and alcohol.

  46. Arties Favorite Herpes Laced Hooker says:

whatever i said about the flu, im retarded. clearly something psychological/depression/drugs/alchohol related.

  47. joe says:

    PUT SAL IN THE SEAT!

  48. mqone says:

I belive what JC’s buddy says about him totalling his Mercedes. If it were in the airport parking lot there would have been video of it. Maybe not the accident as it happened but atleast the other car involved leaving the garage. This is an airport post 9/11 : you can not do anything in this city witout being taped.
    Its all Artie Lange bullshit
This fat fuck can not stop lying and doing drugs he should just come out of the closet. I really think he is a fag and deep down inside with all his hyper male italian bullshit he just cant bring himself to do so.

  49. Chrissy says:

Artie makes millions of dollars doing what he loves.
How many people can say that?
    WAAA for his fucking depression.
He can show up, do what he does, then waaa in bed the rest of the day until 4:30am, FOUR FUCKING DAYS A WEEK.

I know several “sober” people intimately, and still I couldn’t possibly consider this a disease.
It’s simply lacking in maturity and impulse control.
    That’s it.
    Junkies are junkies are junkies.

And I could have SOME sympathy for Artie if he wasn’t such a fucking scumbag liar piece of shit.
    Too too too many lies.

Hope that stupid broad leaves him over this.
He’s not remotely ready to date, let alone be dating such a young girl, messing her life up.

    And Howard is super compassionate.
It’s like impossible to get fired from that place.
But it’s time for Artie to go.
We don’t need someone with so much drama, just a good sense of humor to comment and interact with the guests and news.
    That’s the fucking job.
At least Jackie actually wrote bits.
Artie doesn’t even attend the creative meetings.

  50. mqone says:

I think its time for Nick DiPalo he made me laugh so hard the last time he was in.

  51. FeeFi&FoFum says:

With all the drama, I have to say I sure DO miss Arties misongyistic and homophobic, inappropriate and funny pointless comments.

  52. Cupcake says:

i love all of the people who never had any addiction issues saying Artie needs to appreciate his life and suck it up. WHAT? because there are no beautiful, rich and famous people who have great lives dying of drug overdoses or anything.

regardless of what some of you think, it’s a DISEASE, but i guess like Mitch said, “it’s the only disease you can get yelled at for having!”

GET A CLUE PEOPLE. just because Artie knows better doesn’t mean he can help it.

it’s obvious that getting a girlfriend and getting in shape was his effort to start leading a normal life. yes we can blame him for dragging innocent people into it but it’s likely he would be the first to say, it was selfish but not intentional or malicious.

  53. bub a boobey says:

you guys are suckers just like robin and howard. it is not “depression.” it is DRUGS again. it will ALWAYS be drugs.

  54. artie is a fag says:

waaaaah! i’m a big fat junkie, who gets paid millions of dollars for looking at hot chicks and i can’t keep my shit together

  55. mqone says:

Depression is a disease not drugs and drinking. Drugs and drinking are a personal choice that people make. You have free will not to start , you may loose that free will and become addicted but its a matter of choice when starting. If you have a disease you do not have that choice, you dont choose to have cancer and all the people out there who say drugs and alchol are diseases are dead wrong. They just want to justify their behavior and say they dont have control over it. Thats why most addicts turn to God or a higher power, because they do not want to be in charge of their own lives. They would rather say its not my fault- well it is.

Artie should be drug tested and if he is dirty he should be fired. It is not fair to all the other employees of Sirius to have this person held to a lower standard. Sirius opens itself up to a slew of lawsuits if they keep this guy.

  56. hloots says:

mqone you’re obviously not an addict. By a similar rationale depression would be called a “choice”: choose to suck it up and be happy. TRUE addicts can’t choose.

  57. Cupcake says:

    @hloots – EXACTLY! well said.

  58. mqone says:

Its ok cupcake and hloots now you can be addicted to being addicts But you guys will probably relapse because you are weak and that is not a disease.

  59. Ian Do It says:

I honestly don’t believe that no one has spoken to Artie since his first sick day.

  60. Richard's Unused Toothbrush says:

Cupcake, addiction IS a disease and a very serious one. BUT, there are treatments for it. The adddict has to take advantage of those treatments That is a personal decision and that is where the addict becomes responsible for his behavior. We’ve seen Artie NOT want to do traditional rehab (going to a spa instead). He doesn’t want to do 12 Step, so he hires ex cops to watch him. He’s avoided therapy for years until recently (so he claims). An addict is responsible for making choices to deal with his disease. Artie avoids those hard choices. He doesn’t want to scrub floors or do group therapy in a traditional rehab setting. So he bares responsibility for not addressing his illness and looking for shortcuts.

  61. jess says:

Isn’t it obvious to everyone that he attempted suicide again?

  62. djtr says:

stern and the rest are masters at peaking interest in a non-interesting subect. they can get millions talking and speculating. artie is pretty much an open book, but we all still want to know what is up with him. pretty genius radio.

  63. Cupcake says:

@mqone – awesome comment, i’m sure you’re an expert on all of this based on experience or education.

if it’s the latter, where is your office? i’d like to make an appointment – fingers crossed you’ll write me a prescription.

  64. Artie is the man says:

I think Artie has finally hit that point in his life (midlife crisis’?). With support from his family & friends he’ll b ok. Can’t wait to have ya back Artie !

  65. FeeFi&FoFum says:

    Drugs/Suicide.

  66. Donna says:

addiction is a disease…..someone stated “drinking and drugs is not a disease” – that you have free choice before starting that first drink….yup, however….the addiction to the substance is the issue.
now – back to Artie, I just hope that if he truly is struggling with his addiction he gets to his bottom one day (alive) and is able to find a way to live a happy, sober life. It takes hard work and a support system and many times, major life changes in order to survive. As far as the show goes, most of that is for “the show” – Howard is a brilliant creator of radio play, so remember that as you listen to it play out. Half true, half radio show stuff. He is the master at this.

  67. miter benesdurty? says:

Whatever addiction is, at what point does an addict take ownership of the problem? Obviously its not easy to get and stay clean, but if you enable someone to continue to abuse themselves (we love you artie, even if you are a drug addict), when will they ever seek help?

    Sirius must drop him now.

  68. bintoo says:

It’s his mother, the big “C”. sorry about that bro.

  69. djtr says:

really bintoo. you know for sure?

  70. Artie's Dime Bag says:

Let’s wait for Artie’s return and stop all the speculation. Drugs. Big C, Depression lets see what he has to say before passing judgement on him.

  71. MarcoPervo says:

I can believe how many of you have bought into Pop Psych Victimizology. You fags watch way too much Oprah! Comparing drug/ alcohol addiction to a real disease like cancer is ridiculous.

Some people are simply strong willed and self-respecting and others are like Artie. I have a sister like Artie that thinks everybodies job is to support her effed up druggie lifestyle while she sponges and and lies about her problem. She is in worse shape than Artie because she’s a total liar and after 5 years thinks she can still shine everybody.

Artie needs to be put on suspension without pay when he pulls this, because all Howard/ Sirius are doing is subsidizing his addiction and irresponsibility. If they do this three times afterward, his ass needs to be canned to learn a lesson. He ain’t learning shit being allowed to fuck up and suck the morale out of the rest of the staff.

  72. Remulak says:

Artie is a big baby. He does his famous “whaaaaa” to others, but he should take a look at himself. Daddy was the best, now he’s gone…..I miss Dana….I need to be good for mommy…..I’m sorry I hit the back of your car, I took prescription sleeping pills….Driver, can you take me to Delaware ??
He’s a puss. Suck it up and get back in your chair, or step aside and let someone more responsible do the job. Greg Fitzsimmons, where are you ?

  73. Joe Pickles says:

    It’s Drugs.

  74. Donna says:

When the job has had enough of Artie, they will drop him. When the family has had enough of Artie, they will close their doors (with love hopefully) on him and when his friends have had enough, they too will do the same thing. Addicts don’t think that everyone’s job is to support them, they just try to do whatever they can to lie about their situation and if the people around them continue to allow it (enabling), well, that’s what happens. Addicts make fabulous liars, first and foremost, to themselves and secondly to the world around them. They know nothing of reality and only know about their addiction and only care about getting high. We don’t know anything about Artie’s situation, unless of course, we know him personally…..in which case, I doubt anybody would be posting here.

  75. april says:

i hope it’s not another suicide attempt

  76. stonermoog says:

artie has had more than enough chances to turn it around and he continues to take advantage.
    enough.
    fire artie. he’s a liar.

  77. STERNiverse says:

Maybe its a publicity stunt for his follow up book :)

  78. sandy eggo says:

i hope he isnt going to die or something, i just bought tickets to Artie’s comedy show in san diego on december 11th!!!!!!!?!?!?!??!?!?!

  79. Long Time First Time says:

All of these “theories” are all sides of the same coin. Drug addiction is a symptom. Weight gain is a symptom. Blowing off one’s job is symptom. They are all symptoms of the same disease: Depression.

Artie has made no secret that he was freaking out over his just-passed birthday because that is the same age his father was. Add to that the fact that he just did a benefit for a similarly paralyzed person (who apparently has a great outlook despite it all). Add to that the fact that, at best, he has only received half-assed treatment for his myriad of mental health issues (Howard finally addressed the elephant in the room by stating today that he doesn’t think Artie is going to see his shrink). Look, any doctor…. ANY DOCTOR… including Dr. Nick Riviera (of Simpson’s fame) knows that individuals with a history of drug addiction cannot take any…. ANY… mind altering substances. Yet, Arties’ doctor gives him sleeping pills!?!?!?!? …and, even though 90% of the planet takes the same sleeping pill before bed and then drives to work first thing in the morning (as opposed to noon when Artie got caught), Artie gets arrested for it?!?!?! Then, he chooses to plea bargain his case away even though, if it is as he says, it would be a slam dunk legal victory for him and a great embarassment for the prosecutor?!?!?!?

Look, Artie may or may not have relapsed on drugs, but he also has absolutely NOT been doing the things he is supposed to be doing to get his head straight, which almost guarantees he will continue to have mental health issues. He has always made it clear that he doesn’t want to do the hard work needed to get better (He won’t go to rehab, he constantly lied about seeing a shrink, heck, he can’t even go to the gym for a workout and instead has to play pickup basketball to get any exercise).

  80. RC says:

Add another vote for attempted suicide.

I don’t want him on the show because he brings it down but I don’t want to see him off himself. He must really hate his mother to keep doing all this crap!

  81. jackie the jokeman says:

fuck him and his ” problems” fire his fat ass, the shows have been so good without him, fred talks now, no more that fat slob yelling every five minutes ” we have a winner” how fucken lame, then you ever see how he looks at Howard for approval, every time he tries to be funny ? bring back Meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee, if not me, Aj Benza, or Ralph, how bout George Takei?

  82. David says:

    Mr. Crowwwleyyyyyy,

Artie man, pull it together. I say this: if he hasnt’ gotten it together by now, he never will. I really can’t see Artie NEVER taking another drink again in his life. Drugs, maybe. But no way for booze. The guy just doesn’t have the skin for it. I hope he comes back. He needs to balance things better. The show ain’t going to be around for ever – then what for him?

  83. Alpharaider says:

Donna, your slightly wrong about something you said-some addicts DO think it’s everyones’ job to support them. I’m a big advocate of “tough love” and as long as Artie is allowed to continue the same behavior with little or no consequences nothing will change for him. We cut my stepdaughter off cold last month after she swindled us. She has been sponging off of people for the last year without working at all. She OD’d on heroin a week ago (her ex’s mom let us know) and our baby grandson is now in foster care (thank god) but guess what? She went right back out and sold her blood plasma for her next fix. I have washed my hands of the whole situation-I don’t need the stress. Like Artie, she’s a proficient liar and will lie about anything as long as she gets what she wants.

I got a feeling Art’s rock bottom is gonna be really low and dark.

  84. Bill says:

It’s pretty clear that Artie is over this gig and is doing whatever it takes to get himself fired. He hates the hours and he has made plenty of money since starting with the book and outside gigs – that and the show is not all about him like his gigs are – it’s called EGO. I’m guessing contract obligations prevent him from quitting, however if he gets fired it is a different story.

  85. The Ghost Of Michael O'Donoghue says:

Well, he may be over the gig, but if he thinks that he’ll
have a continuing, and high paying career in showbiz, BG
is sorely mistaken. Believe me, no producer wants to deal with
his kind of drug/ego addled horseshit in terms of his working
on a real Movie,TV show, etc. After all, one second BG has a
development deal with Fox to do a TV show, the next he’s doing
stand up @ the Stress Factory. If his depression/addiction is
that bad, I’m sure someone, either from BG’s family, or agent/
manager should have him committed pronto.

Like Jackie, and everyone else who’s worked on the Stern show,
BG’s stuck in Howard’s ghetto, and no one in it has ever been able
to parley it into a major, or even mid-level showbiz career.

I mean, even Hamptons Howie has gone from a deal to do an
interview show with ABC, to producing lingerie bowling on
Howard TV-as Kelly Bundy would say, the mind wobbles.

  86. Adrianne's virgin ass says:

Thank God I didn’t allow that drug-using slob into me.

  87. Been thinking of Artie all day, and MAYBE i was a bit too harsh this morning…Nah!

Yesterday i was visiting my Mr Slick acquaintances—he was a lady’s man, basket/football star, charmer—he became a crackhead and then a heroin addict, WAS on the road to being clean and sober, then stroked the fuck out recently [@ the age of 52]. Because of the stroke he can no longer talk or walk at the moment…but you can see his mind is STILL there…and he was in tears when his mom & sister had to leave yesterday [and from what i've been told, that's par for the course with him now].

THEY had wanted to pull the plug on him when he first stroke out…so much for “good” health insurance [if THEY see it's gonna cost too much, THEY got their own death panels].

Been where YOU are Artie, TWICE, and this: http://grumpyoldbookman.blogspot.com/2006/05/eminemsrevenge-jew-girl.html is the second time ’round when i REALLY considered pulling the plug on myself [for Artie only, ain't trying to sell none of y'all the book].

Almost EVERY line comes from that DARK PLACE…yet i escaped it and no reason why you can’t too…unless you punk out like Corbain!

Yo motherfucker, YOU are more a working class hero than Springsteen EVER could’ve been…WHAT would Thurman Munson think IF you did the shit you’re now doing???

Want a CURE for your depression?

A—READ my first book, preferably with a few good hits of acid

B—Keep a million in an IRA and GET A JOB doing real work! The underlying cause of your so-called depression is you KNOW you got it soft…and you ain’t used to it.

C—Go live in Haiti or the outskirts of Mexico City amongst the *poeple* sans your credit card$…or hit all the shelters and soup kitchens in NYC. YOU are really starting to piss me the fuck off HOMO

artie is a big fat load. people are losing their houses, jobs, minds, family members, spouses, careers etc. this fat bastard has to wake up 4 days a week for 6 hours and 10 weeks vacation for a few mil a year. waaaa is right. get up and go to work asshole we all have to do it and most of us for pennies on the dollar to what you make. fuck you douche bag.

  89. mike m says:

I bet the text just said: “I’m depressed and just want to stay home.”

  90. @lindo – it is amazing to see people so quick to say “f him” – i hope they never face addiction in their own life or in their family, but chances are they will. i hope that they don’t just “jump” or tell their loved ones to “jump”

@cupcake – u are so right. the show is not nearly as good without Artie. i hope he’s back soon

hey haters, this is http://savebabygorilla.com not http://ihopeartiedies.com

  92. Long Time First Time says:

For whatever it is worth, the show IS different without Artie, and not necessarily in a better way. Mind you, it is still more than passable, and I am still listening and still laughing out loud. However, it DOES need that third voice. Without Artie (or some other third voice… even George Takei), the show is slightly off kilter. We just get too much of Robin’s pontificating and not enough of anything else. Fred has clearly found his place as a non-speaking sound-effects guy (and he is darn good at it), so he can’t be the third voice. Benji… well, the less Benji speaks the better. He is worse than Robin in his ability to be irritating simply by opening his mouth so I pray that Howard doesn’t give him a chance to fill the void. God forbid, somebody like Ralph or the idiot twins, Sal and Richard, get more airtime. That WOULD ruin the show. Bottom line: Either Artie has to get it together or Howard needs to move on a pick a new body for the “Jackie Chair”.

  93. Neal in Chicago says:

    Artie,

I’ll trade place with you. Money, Success, Fame, and a Hot Young Girlfriend.

  94. FeeFi&FoFum says:

True Artie fans givin out the tough love…Or tough shit, whatever you like. Myself included! Im glad we got our Baby Gorilla back to kick around! WOO HOO!

  95. FeeFi&FoFum says:

Oh I noticed Artie selling T-Shirts on his myspace page…Didnt Sal & Richard get in trouble for that?

  96. Don'tBringBackJackie says:

    hey people…miss me? lol ..it’s a joke

anyway, opinion time, I don’t care about Artie or his problems. He wants to make a living off this image but there are people who really struggle and can’t throw money at the problem. You can’t hire 2 guys to watch you or get a young skank to add a spark to your life. You have to want to improve and that goes for everyone in life, including me. Artie doesn’t care and he doesn’t then neither should we. I mean, seriously, how many of have spent time trying to right someone you cared for in your life just to have them throw it away over and over. Screw that!

Artie doesn’t care about you people, so don’t worry about him. He’s not that talented either. I work in wholesale and no one ever orders his crappy dvd of Beer League and we ship to stores that ask for ANYTHING, including Carrot Top’s movie! Artie got the Golden Ticket and got his Veruca Salt on by being a bloated, over-rated hack who can’t appreciate what he has.

Get over it, people…it’s over Johnny…

  97. Darek in OrLangedo says:

Artie is a professional. He will be back to work on Tuesday. The man is a fucking saint and deserves to be treated as such. All the laughter and entertainment he’s provided for you dirty cocksuckers and this is the thanks he gets? Goddamn ingrates.
