Plausibility?

We all know to take Artie’s excuse with a grain of salt. He has lied in the past many times and to most fans, his word can’t be trusted. I always try to give him the benefit of the doubt. I don’t know why but maybe its just my compassion towards  him, hoping he is getting his life on track.

It was interesting this morning that Artie mentioned he is being medicated, specifically, Lithium.  A friend of mine is on Lithium and almost every year she goes through some kind of breakdown where she claims the medicine gets messed up. She gets so messed up that she actually gets hospitalized. She is a teacher and, as of right  now, she is missing her second week of classes. She was only hospitalized for almost the first week and at this time she is at home awaiting doctor’s permission to go back to work.

With that perspective, is it really hard to believe that Artie’s story couldn’t be true (if you were to take the whole ‘lying previously’ thing away).

I hate to say it, but when he says he is trying to get himself better, I want to believe him, regardless of how many times he has lied in the past about stuff like that.

  2. FeeFi&FoFum says:

Artie caught a does of the lazy’s…Just needed an extended nap, cupcakes and some kool-aid. Thats all.

  3. miter benesdurty? says:

Lying or not, can we all agree that Artie’s self-imposed road to recovery is just not working?

C’mon, I mean he sez now he’s quitting the road in 2010. So now what does he do with that time? Build model airplanes?

So now he’s analyzing the weekends of shows he has commitments to and which he will cancel or postpone. Why not cancel them all? What is more important at this point? After this episode, how is anything but his physical and mental health more important than ANYTHING else?

Addicted to money is the stupidest fucking thing I ever heard. Oh yeah, I’m addicted to money too, I love it, can’t get enough, want more, need more. Who the hell doesn’t??

  4. dainty says:

I think when you try anything hard it takes time to be successful. I think he is trying. I think he wants to get better but it is very hard. I do believe he was depressed to the point he was incapacitated, it happens. Your mind very powerful. Cutting his shows will allow him to get on a “normal” schedule which will help him. Look you never have enough money whether youre poor or rich. It’s all perspective. He has more than most and should find some comfort in his success. I’m not saying he’s not a liar as its part of the addiction. I’m saying he’s on the right road and just needs a bit more help to get to the finish line* I still support him*

  5. djtr says:

whatever the truth is, i am very thankful i have no addictions. except food.
i can understand the addiction to money. artie started from pretty much nothing, and got very lucky doing something he likes doing and is good at. and by luck, i mean he worked hard at his comedy, and was ready when the lightning struck. and i am sure he is afraid it will all go away someday, which it probably will.

Regarding the title of this thread, for all those who believe artie, has it not dawned on you that the drug addict’s lies make you believe what they are telling you is actually plausible?

Gee he just turned 42, a perfect storm of events occurring and poof! Just like that he misses a week of “work”?

So instead of coming in nodding off with dry mouth, he stays out so noone can see him fucked up.

Know this, the longer artie keeps up this charade of trying to come up with a better work schedule, seeing his shrink on and off, saying he feels great, etc the more it just means he aint ready to quit the drugs.

  8. bub a boobey says:

artie takes lithium while riding on his jet skis and playing 3 on 3 basketball while jogging in the park with the rolling stone writer. that’s why he’s lost so much weight recently.

  9. Long Time First Time says:

Like much of what Artie says, I believe there is some truth in what he is saying along with some exaggeration and some convenient misstatement of fact as well. In other words, I believe he had a tough week… perhaps, even so bad that he could not drag his butt out of bed and get to work. However, I find it hard to believe that he spent the last week and a half essentially curled into a fetal position, not eating and unable to even watch the Yanks playoff games, while his girlfriend, sister and mother watched over him. I just find it too implausible that he went from that condition last week, to being able to work (at a job that requires a quick sharp wit) with no apparent side-effects in a matter of a few days. Undoubtedly, the guy suffers from severe depression, which is a very real physical disease (and NOT the same thing as a case of “the blues” no matter what Sal and Richard might try to say), and, because he refuses to be consistent about its treatment (seeing his shrink EVERY week, taking his medication EVERY day and in the proper doses, taking care of his body), he continues to have “relapses” like this last one. It is going to be a LOT worse in a year when the show ends because then his life will have 0.0 structure. He will be able to do whatever he wants, whenever he wants to do it. Eventually (after the show ends), one of two things will happen: (a). We are going to read his name in an obituary; or (b). He is going to “figure it out” and get serious about getting better. Unfortunately, based on past results, I still have to cast my vote for option (a)., though I make no bones about hoping it is (b).

  10. artie's fat pants says:

i don’t think anyone really cares. however, i do think he’s totally embellishing. come on, you can’t have a meltdown and then 3-5 days later be back in the studio like nothing happened.

  11. miter benesdurty? says:

Just heard replay of yesterday’s show (on mp3) and I heard when jc calls in they acted like he wasn’t there, meaning they probably pre emptively canned the call.

Howard, please shut the hell up about jay leno and stuttering john.

  12. drama helps the show !!! arte brings funny plus drama and a dose of fuckin reality to an otherwise sanitized version of the old stern shows<<<<<seen a smallest dick show lately??????

  13. beenthere says:

Firstly, I think Artie is an attention addict. I think he is just elated when he thinks of people waiting and wondering about him, doting on him, etc. He needs to be excommunicated by everyone and ignored for a while until he gets attention for the RIGHT behavior.

Secondly – Lithium is used to change someone’s clock around so they don’t stay up all night – really, it’s just a salt, which is why exercise is not a good think – you sweat the stuff out. You don’t get high from Lithium – it just turns down the volume of life so you can cope. If anything, it stuns you a bit.

  14. Alpharaider says:

I had a friend on Lithium and it seemed to have made him more of a lunatic. It actually halted our friendship for awhile. He’s much better now-he quit drinking.

dirtyturbin, I mentioned that yesterday (about the JC call). I totally believe that someone cut that call OFF. I think Artie might have been that person-all he had to do was shake his fat head “no” to Howard when he heard “JC”.

beenthere is right on the money-all addicts I have ever known are addicted to the drama as well as the drug. They are the biggest attention whores on the planet and they thrive on sympathy. My stepdaughter isn’t the first kid to get cut off in this family. My oldest son finally got it and has been clean and sober for 9 months. He’s working a 12 step program and living in a group home for recovering addict/alcoholics. Before that could happen I had to quit picking up the phone, quit making excuses for him, quit loaning him money (strangely he paid it back but I think it came from drug deals). I told him he wasn’t welcome at home anymore. I also delivered an advance directive packet to him to fill out because I needed to know what he wanted done with himself when he finally stroked out or ended up in a vegitative state. That was what finally got his attention because we had always been so close. Artie’s mom and sister are keeping him in his current state by enabling him. He keeps saying he doesn’t want to hurt them anymore but continues to do so because THEY LET HIM! It’s really a very dependent relationship on both sides.

  15. jimmy says:

C’mom, he even got caught lying about the jet ski. In the summer he said that taking out his jet ski was great exercise and that that is the reason for his weight loss. Yesterday he said that he only took it out twice. Forget addictions, the guy is just lazy. We’ve all worked with slackers like Artie who make up some heart-wrenching excuse for all of their sick days. I guarantee he had the worst attendance as a longshoreman. waaaaaaah, man up already!

  16. JC's buddy says:

They did cut the call off….. that fucker was sweating balls, we were on hold and then we heard a dial tone. When I called JC back and 3 wayed the offices said”Howard is moving on”……Everyone on that show knows the deal but for some reason Artie’s got Howard(Daddy)’s approval/immunity and hides under Howies security blanket and/or what I believe is Howards indifference and just not caring anything anymore about your beloved baby gorilla…In other words Artie is a lost cause…..

  17. Kamie says:

JC’s Buddy – initially I believed you, but I remembered the comment you made the other day about the call. contradicts what you just said. So what is it – did they hang up on you or did you guys hang up??

    JC’s buddy says:
    October 20, 2009 at 9:42 am
For the record we did call this morning( I conferenced JC into the main office nbr) and we were on hold for an hour but JC had to go to work and hung up when Tracy Morgan went on but he s going to callback tomorrow

  18. artiefan says:

    Wow, nice catch Kamie!

  19. miter benesdurty? says:

Sounds to me like this is how it played out.

They waited a long time on hold, and when howard went to the call, for some mysterious reason, jc and co could not be heard. Howard hangs up.

Jc and co probably tried calling again immediately after, but by then howard had moved onto tracey morgan. Jc had to leave, so no sense in calling and waiting on hold again.

    That timeline is accurate.

  20. JC's buddy says:

Thanks miter, that’s exactly how it went…Keep drinking the kool aid kamie and artiefan for that matter… Artie really did have a MINI-NErvous breakdown but made a miraculous recovery annnnnnnnnnnnnnddd he has been sober since April annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd he walks tp therapy annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd He plays centerfield for the Yankees lol fuck it! Send $1000 to my paypal account while your at it!( shakes head and :-) )

  21. Kamie says:

Look JC’s Buddy – I believe you! What you are saying makes so much more sense than anything that Artie has said to defend himself. I just could not reconcile what you said the other day about the call versus what you said today. He is totally using again, and the whole car crash/DUI thing seemed very sketchy to me. It just didn’t make sense.

  22. Tracey says:

    All lies:

    1. He claims that soooo many people saw him on the ferry going to the doctors, they hugged him, told him good luck…AND NOT ONE CALLED INTO THE SHOW???

    2. He was shaking, sweating, and throwing up because he was going WITHDRAWLING…he lied to his girlfriend and said it was a nervous breakdown, it was drugs and he was trying to pull the wool over her eyes.

I’VE SEEN THIS ALL BEFORE….TYPICAL JUNKIE LIES, BS STORIES WITH LOTS OF DETAILS SO THEY SEEM REAL, THIS IS ALL BS

  23. Arties Favorite Herpes Laced Hooker says:

2 things I think artie claimed, just today, he had taken lithium in the past, didnt seem like he was on it currently.

the other thing did artie fall down in the middle of the rosie interview? I wasnt sure if it was freds sound effect cause it didnt seem like the time to put a sound effect on. If he did it was pretty funny.

  24. STERNiverse says:

Actually, Artie has admitted to using Lithium back in April of this year.

And I think Fred played the sound effect first and Rosie joked if it was Artie falling and then Howard explained it was Fred.

  25. Arties Favorite Herpes Laced Hooker says:

artie to appear tomorrow on Jimmy Fallons show.

  26. artiefan says:

Another thing to add is that Rosie quit her entire show when she was having issues dealing with her dead mother. Shit, Artie only missed a few days of work.

  27. Wow – there sure was some real “hate” on here last week for Artie.

Remind me not to meet most of you in real life -> unless you start having troubles, as it would probably be interesting to see if you want compassion or criticism.

Some of you make me wonder if you think we should just lock up all drug users -> or kill them or something.

  28. miter benesdurty? says:

@elvis – How many chances do you give someone who has lied pretty consistently over the past few years? How many chances does someone get when they repeatedly hurt not only themselves, but pretty much everybody who cares about them? After awhile, the best thing is tough love, which I am sure arties inner circle has tried unsuccessfully. Ultimately the chunkie junkie has to step up to the plate, and do the right thing. Primarily for himself, but also for the sake of his own family. Shitting on them over and over is just wrong, and embarrassing for them.

I recall when this began a couple years back with arties revelation that he used H, most of the fans gave artie major benefit of the doubt, we believed him when he said it was under control. Like George W Bush said, fool me once, won’t get fooled again!

  29. Alpharaider says:

Well, Elvis, having recently dealt with a lying, conniving drug addict and deciding to cut her off completely I can tell you that ya just get fed up after awhile. I had to make a decision for my own health and sanity to not respond to anymore calls for help. I have enough to deal with in my own life without adding her constant chaos to it. I’ve cut off contact with friends from childhood who are now addicts and alcoholics because it’s just too exhausting listening to them whine about their situation and then pour another drink or snort another line. They always want something-money, a ride, some food (meanwhile they spent the money they had on drugs/alcohol), it just never ends. I’ve tough-loved a lot of people out of my life. Lock them up? Not necessarily. Make them take personal responsibility for what they got themselves into? Absolutely.

  30. laura palmer says:

no matter what artie says, or does not say, does it really matter? even though he is on the stern show and shares his stories (embellished or not), isn’t he entitled to a private life? i understand the “celebrity” argument, but howard stern has remained mum on most of the sensitive areas of his life (his daughters, divorce, ex-wife, most of his alleged “single-life, post-divorce conquests,” etc.). robin’s boyfriend of many years never revealed his name or face.
as far as i’m concerned, we are all lucky to have been let in as far as we have by artie. there is no greater “radio gold” than the human condition. this is all smoke and mirrors to begin with. just add addict.

  31. Alpharaider says:

Excellent points, Laura. It IS interesting how Howard and Robin are allowed to keep their private lives private for the most part but Artie and pretty much everyone else on the show is fair game. It can’t be helping the gorilla too much to know that he’s gonna have to put his business out there for all to see and hear. Howard is relentless about getting in other peoples’ business but you better stay out of his.

  32. TwaTwaTwatter says:

Nonsense. Artie’s allowed to keep or divulge whatever he chooses to. If he hadn’t specifically revealed his heroin addiction on the air no one would have had any clear idea WHAT was wrong (or if in fact anything particularly serious was wrong at all).

There’s no requirement upon Artie that he “share” as much as he does. But it’s proven useful to him (his stories were a big part of what got him hired).

He can still “stop anytime he wants”. Howard’s amazing interview and nagging skills end at the tip of Artie’s whitish lips.

He successfully hid his ridiculously young A-cupped teen girlfriend for weeks. He continues to hide the extent of his addictions and misdeeds (hushed up Mercedes crash as per the poster here, who knows what else).

He teases us with the depth of his cup of personal crap, but we haven’t fully drunk from it, nor do I particularly care to. He’s entertaining on the show and I wish him health and continued success… period.

  33. miter benesdurty? says:

Regarding the last two posts about artie’s privacy, anyone who has listened to the HSS knows that they do not discuss everybody’s personal business at will.

For example, we heard very little if anything about Ronnie’s breakup with his wife, and I am sure that was by ronnie’s request. I’m pretty sure after all this time, the HSS has some solid rules about what can be openly discussed, and what is totally off limits, and I am sure they take the privacy of the staff seriously. I would gather topics for the show come up during meetings, and privacy is something they discuss. Bottom line is – we only know what they will allow us to know, no more, no less.

However, artie very early on made it abundantly clear that his substance abuse problems were fair game. And if you think we know too much, I guarantee you, our knowledge only scratches the surface.

Lastly, artie is not being forced with a gun to his head to stay on the show, and neither is any one else.

  34. Joe Pickles says:

    Artie’s got the voice again.

I can’t wait until the entire truth of this whole saga.

  35. laura palmer says:

@miter- please, howard and robin may as well have just read artie’s text message on the air when he was out sick. (and “sick” is the correct word, whether he is on drugs or depressed–both are illnesses.) they made more out of that cryptic text message than they would have out of a voicemail, which they play all the time. if fred or even gary called out i doubt they would share the message on air. i have been listening for over 20 years and one thing i know for sure is that howard is famous for outing people’s personal business without their blessing. remember the rainbow room? the list could go on and on …

  36. TwaTwaTwatter says:

Hey miter, beat you by 2 minutes with nearly the same post. :)

laura, if you’ve been listening that long then you know we’re right — some things NEVER make the air, whether they’re Howard’s own stuff or not.

Seriously? — you think think if “Fred or even Gary called out I doubt they would share the message on air”? ? Are you fucking serious? How can you say that in the SAME post that reference’s Fred’s Rainbow Room incident? I think you’re just full of shit, personally. No offense. Your self-contradictory posts make no sense at all. I thought David Lynch was finally letting you rest in peace anyway…. :)

What does and doesn’t make the air is entirely in the discretion of those who open their mouths and those who control the broadcast. We still don’t know who the hell Robin’s fucking now (I just wish she’d leave the show) and I suppose the News Team has backed off her.

There’s no agenda against Artie, singling him out for exposure. As I said above, that’s just nonsense. If anything, it’s painfully obvious he gets the kid glove treatment ALL t he time from everyone on the show….

  37. laura palmer says:

why are people on this site so nasty? not to mention not very bright?

  38. laura palmer says:

howard outed fred by allowing the caller to call in and tell about the details of the rainbow room incident. i was attempting to make the point that fred and gary would be treated differently than artie is if they were in a similar position. perhaps when i write a shorter post you can better comprehend what i am saying.

  39. laura palmer says:

a bunch of comedians here. as for the hacky old david lynch comment, it’s my real name, dumb-dumb.

  40. Ca Ca Cunty says:

    Why no updates?

  41. miter benesdurty? says:

@laura – I will grant you this much. There have been incidents in the past (arguments, fights, etc) that seem to have just happened by natural flow of events. However, the HSS has a long standing reputation of milking these incidents for radio “gold”. I used to think this is what makes the HSS so great. But more and more over time, I’ve gotten cynical about how things play out on the show.

What does this mean about the topic at hand? It means I think they are very careful about what gets discussed, and yes, they even plan some of these incidents or at least throw out the premise to lead to an argument. Kind of like improvisation. Just my humble opinion.

  42. laura palmer says:

i think my main point is that we are dealing with an illness now. people walk around my office afraid to talk about having diabetes, let alone mental illness and/or drug addiction. the rainbow room is one thing. fred did that in public and it had no real consequences. but the bottom line is that artie may very well die from his illness, and it is a very private one. the fact that it is private explains why everyone is always speculating. no matter what artie comes out with and says, there are always going to be secrets. secrets even more deep than who robin’s banging.

  43. miter benesdurty? says:

So your point is YOU think artie should keep this private matter private? Honey, you missed that train a looooong time ago!

  44. miter benesdurty? says:

So your point is YOU think artie should keep this private matter private? Maybe, but you missed that train a looooong time ago!

As fans of the show, I don’t see anything wrong with commenting on anything related to the show. We all have opinions and I know they ALL stink!!

  45. laura palmer says:

it’s up to him what he wants to do. he can’t push the reset button. all i’m saying is that nobody knows half of what’s going on with him becuase he is a junkie, and by virtue, a compulsive liar. as he says “artie does what artie wants.” comment away.

  46. jamiedessler says:

There was a poster here who is crowing about cutting off his stepdaughter for all her actions as an addict. i’ve been on both sides of the fence as a recovering addict and as a family member affected by very similar actions that have affected your family. point blank, you’re a shitty father. argue all you want about “tough” choices or whatever. you’re a shitty father. end of story and thanks for comin’ out.

  47. Yeah, Alpharaider is a shitty father… she doesn’t even have a penis.

  48. jamiedessler says:

Lol. i stand corrected. if alpharaider is the one in question. let’s just say shitty parent, whoever it may be.

  49. Alpharaider says:

That’s a funny thing for someone who doesn’t know me, doesn’t know the depth of the devestation this girl has brought on my family and her two innocent little boys, and has no clue what led up to her father and I making this decision. I guess you think we should enable a lying, sneaking, stealing drug addict and allow her into our home to rob us of what we have worked hard for while she sponges off of everyone in her path. That’s a great plan. That’ll get her clean. We cut her off because she needs to own her own behavior and suffer the consequences. This isn’t the first time she fucked up-last time she almost went to prison for trafficking and lost custody of her first baby. Tell me, am I a shitty parent or is she being a shitty daughter?

  50. jamiedessler says:

both. of course she is the one with the sickness, but im sure you`re right. you are right, i dont know you. i can only go by the brief glimpse into ur life that u provide us. much like artie. so i guess maybe i shouldn`t make snap judgements based solely on personal experience, hearsay, and anecdotal information. that being said, why dont u shut the fuck about artie? or let me guess, it`s different? not the same as what ur doing with artie? maybe. not really. naw, same exact thing. that aside, it`s odd how u seem to boast about this. i`d think the loss of a child especially in this situation would be tragic. but i`m sure i`m just misreading it. im sure it has nothing to do with a lack of compassion or basic human/parental emotions. nevermind. let`s go back to picking on artie. that way we dont have to deal w our own shitty actions and/or decisions we made in life. right? come on raider, come on jc`s buddy, let`s get him!

  51. Alpharaider says:

You win-you’re the authority on drug addiction and how addicts should be dealt with. Enabling is the key-got it. Your personal experience has 0.0 to do with mine and that of my family. This isn’t the place to go into that-I don’t know you and really don’t care what you think. You can call me whatever you want from that keyboard, princess.

I will not “shut the fuck up about Artie”. This is a site where we make posts about Artie-every one of us speculates on what we think is going on with him. Artie is an entertainer-this is a fan site. I’m pretty sure none of us know what’s in his refrigerator or underwear drawer or what he watched on TV tonight. Lighten up there, pumpkin-you’re a fan, not a friend.

  52. Jamie Dessler says:

I’m sorry, could you speak up? I’m a trife deaf in this ear.
