I tend to agree with my brother in law who says..”if there’s no artie im leaving sirius” I have been a devoted Fan/daily listener since 1985. Knowing Howard, he will, if he needs to, replace the Artie chair with someone who is a great addition to the mix. What makes the show great and never waning for me is the dynamic of the group. So it matters greatly who sits in Artie’s seat, should it come to that. I hope Artie comes back, he makes me laugh out loud! He is just so natural, a really lovable guy.
While I think the show was still good without him, I either want Artie there or pick someone to fill in for him until he gets healthy (Dave Attel or maybe rotate in Celebrity Supahfans). I felt that Fred had to speak too much during the show (I mean he even showed up for the wrap-up show yesterday). Fred is better making just rare comments and sound effects.
I really will miss Howard if he leaves. I will probably cancel Sirius unless there is either some version of the show left or Sirius fully commits to Bubba.
I guess Howard’s Holiday dinner for the show is tonight. Bubba tweeted that he, Spice, and Brent are on their way up to NYC for the Howard’s party and have to be back in Tampa for Friday morning at 6AM….
I think that the show has gone down hill since they started sirius. Howard has been such a panzi and I think that Artie is the only person there trying to keep things the way they were. He is the only honest man there and I love hearing all of his crazy stories, I actually wish he spoke more.
I do agree with everyone else, I want to know what’s happening with him, have Langford do a story on Artie filling all the fans in. Stern has always been about honestly and letting the fans know exactly what is going on, soooo… whats going on???
If Howard wasnt on, Id still listen to Sirius. Id just listen to alot more music. I hope with the addition of a few cats : ) retiring will lQQk less attractive to Howard. I also have to hope Artie in Rehab. Part of getting better, going thru the hard stuff. The hard stuff seems to be where Artie always loses it. He has to face his demons, I promise they wont be as bad as he “thinks” they are. Hang in there Artie, we love ya **
Don’t you listen to the other stations?
The medium blows away regular radio.
The commercials on regular radio are just like TV….loud, obnoxious, and unbearable.
While I am also a true Howard superfan, listening every day since he hit Chicago, I would not quit Sirius if he leaves, even though their customer service blows.
On another note, Artie lost me as a fan with all the lies.
I don’t think we can rate the show without Artie just yet. The shills will all say it sucks and everyone sick of Artie’s bullshit will say its fine without him (me). Give it a good 2 or 3 month run without the fat albatross (I hope!), then we can judge more objectively.
When howard leaves, I will dump sirius, listen to AM news in the morning, mp3 on the ride home, and life will go on as normal.
miter, I have been listening to 1010wins 880 and after 20 minutes you have heard everything, things are so bad on am radio I find myself bouncing between Imus and Boomer and that toolbag he’s with and it’s flat out garbage…
Are you serious, Miter? You cant rate the show yet? How long have you been listening. You dont know what the show sounds like with artie in the past 9 years and how many times he he hasnt been on the show, now for a whole week?
@ Artie’s Heart – Good thing my drive time is only 30 minutes. Some days I have our car with Sirius, somtimes not. I can’t stand the guy they have with Boomer on WFAN – he gives douchebags a bad name! What an ass!
Really, I’d like to see Howard leave Sirius, just to see what happens. I wouldn’t mind howard back on regular radio, and I doubt he would do his own Internet thing because that means hook nose would have to invest out of his own pocket. He’s no dummy when it comes to cabbage.

@ af – My immediate assessment is no Artie this week was a nice change. Yours is you miss him already. You think either one us may feel different in 3 months? Hard to see the forest from the trees.
I think its been a great week without Artie. Howard had to talk a little more. I think Artie is needed to keep Howard in the gutter. I have enjoy the years with Artie much more than the times with Jackie. We need Artie to get better and come back to his seat.
With or without Artie the show is still good, I would love for him to come back but if he doesn’t he doesn’t. Remember Artie’s gotta do what Artie’s gotta do.
No Artie is no big deal. Dude is a non-factor for most of the show and yet pulls down more a year than twenty “normal” listeners combined! F Artie and his junkie depression! Every episode of Master Tape w/Jackie blows away most everything the fat Jowzy wop has ever contributed…
Allz I’m sayin’ is that so close to this latest implosion, many of us have immediate gut reactions about how we feel about the situation (NOT to be confused with that a-hole on Jersey Shore!).
If the show is sucking wind in a couple of months, than obviously I am totally wrong about Artie and his value to the show. BUT, if the show is in a stride, hitting home runs regularly in a few months, then maybe Artie over-stayed his welcome.
Icing on the cake down the road would be a new, clean, sober Artie, no more HSS duties, ready to take on the world once again. Hope so for his sake.
Maybe the show needs a new guy for the last year or longer if it goes on….nine years is forever in show business. Artie probably peaked a few years ago anyway, Jackie came and went and the show still plugs on….
@Hooker – I missed the wrapup show but the only thing Marksfriggin says about it was
“Gange said that Artie had him in the Secret Santa thing and he may never get a gift. Gary told him that what Artie has to go through he should just forget about it. Shuli said that this sounds like a question to post on Facebook. Gange asked if he should bring it up on the air when Artie comes back. Jon said that might be kind of uncomfortable. They had to end the show after that.”
artie’s a more likable guy. when he’s not nodding-off or lying about “getting help”, artie’s a funny sidekick w/ a natural talent for comedy. jokeman, on the other hand, is a comedic hack. he’s mean-spirited and greedy. to this day, his ex-coworkers (especially fred & robin) don’t like him. HOWEVER… strange as it sounds, the show works better w/ jackie than it does w/ artie. look, artie helps the show. it’s still funny. but jackie brought something different–cruelness. nothing’s better than in-studio in-fighting. jackie pushed buttons, made howard, fred and robin 10x more vicious. i’d love for them to bring jackie back. but, sadly, it’ll never happen in a million years. NEVER HAPPEN.
I believe that Artie has been given plenty of opportunities to make a change in his life style so that he may continue to be a part of the show. Although I enjoy when he’s on the show, I actually enjoy it even more without him. I get tired of hearing about his problems. We all have problems and that’s why we listen to the show. It’s an escape for me. I laugh a lot and Artie isn’t funny anymore. Love him, but enough already.
Artie…wawawawawa! I don’t bring my problems to work! Get better. You’re still young enough to make a change so that you can live a healthy and fullfuling life. Life is wonderful and should be lived to the fullest.
You can get any number of occasionally-funny guys from Jersey with gambling/hooker/drug stories and anger/mommy/reliability issues with a gruff, lower-class mentality. Filling Artie’s position will be easy, even if you want an “Artie imitator”.
The show isn’t the same without Artie.
Those who bitch about Artie should go back and listen to some of the old shows with Jackie. How many hours can you stand listening to that nitwit laughing?
Artie should be a part of the Howard Stern Show until the end of it. Once Artie’s back from whatever the hell this is, we’ll more than likely get some awesome stories (how about that Jamaican woman from his last ‘rehab’).. comedy gold! I just want him better and back on the show. It flows so much better when Artie is in a zone and can bounce things off of Hoard, Fred, and Robin.
when howard announced (made public) his intention to leave terrestrial radio for the green pastures of satellite. having listened to howard for so long, i feared that his battles (fcc, imus, dice, leno, rosie, clear channel, les m. & corporate, etc.) would get too ugly, even for satellite. the last thing i expected was a series of love fests, cease fires and peace treaties. i don’t get it–15 years he fought for freedom. everyone (ny & la) bowed down to the king-of-all-media, while he blazed a path that spanned from hollywood to the hamptons. and kindness followed. for most people (99%) kindness is a good trait. but if it’s your job to ask the questions no one else is willing to ask but everyone is secretly thinking, then kindness becomes a liability.
Ryan in Arizona, seriously how is the show not the same? What big contribution does Artie bring to the table is his fabricated stories? Arties contributions are along the line of Sal, Richard, and Gary on the air, they are funny because Howard makes them funny. Occasionally Artie comes up with a funny or interesting story, his biggest moments on the show where when he has a meltdown, filps out or whatever. I like Artie on the show but seriously the show is just fine without him. Even when the Howard Stern show blows it’s 1000 times better then anything else on radio.
Artie is going to come back and say the same thing he says after every time he comes back from his “rehab”
1-Howard I feel great
2- Im really buying in to this therapy thing (hes probably not going)
3- Maybe Robins on to something with her diet
4- I have the best job in the world I love coming to work
If you play the tape of everytime he comes back he says the same exact thing because its all a script in that losers mind. He constantly says he is clean but then the storys come out about how he slipped. He claimed he was not drunk or on drugs but when he got arrested he plead guilty you want to know why he was guilty of something and he knew it.
He should just go away Nick DiPalo would rule in that seat and after Artie gambles away snorts away or lends away all his money then he will either finally get his act together or just kill himself either way we will be done with this shit for good.
A few posts ago, someone was comparing jackie and artie and said to go back and listen to jackie’s annoying cackling. That’s not a fair assessment knowing what we know now.
I’ve listen for 24 years now, and I can tell you there were times in the jackie era that I was in tears with laughter, not solely because of jackie, but they had a great chemistry, the whole team. Artie, same thing.
However, each guy is very different, in terms of their personality, and contributions to the show. I know Jackie wrote a lot of stuff, have no clue if Artie ever “wrote” for the show.
I actually think Artie, on the comedy meter, is a tad funnier. But his personal issues knock him down several notches. And since Artie’s act/persona is so tied to degenerate behavior, I find that joking about it is more sad than funny now. Artie is on track to be one of those sad stories where people say “wow, imagine what could have been..” And “if only he had stayed clean…”
Thanks “OJ” , I didnt see that. I remember them doing that last time looking for him. I wouldn’t be surprised if he tells the front desk to lie if he is around lol
mqone is so right. Artie is probably writing the script (I feel great, Robin’s diet is great, I have the greatest job in the world) for his triumphant return to the show in Jan. right now — on his way back from Delaware.
Having recovered from the same addiction Artie’s going through, I’ve recognized his lies just by his daily tone of voice on the show. I used the same excuses. He never should’ve made the announcement a couple years ago if he wasn’t serious about cleaning up. That put the micro-scope on him. Hopefullyhe’s really in recovery and not going to pull a Farley.
You Jackie fluffers must all be the same person. Which part of “massively untalented hack” evades you? He… was… never… remotely… funny. Period. If his writing contributed to the show, great, but he NEVER, then or now, came off on the air as anything but a crashing, desperate bore. Who DIDN’T cringe when he kept chanting “The Beatles of Comedy” in his desperate attempt to grab undue credit for HOWARD’s talent and efforts? How Howard let that undermining fuck stay so long is a mystery. He has NO place on the show, and is rightly shunned by us true fans.
By (tremendous) contrast, Artie has serious on-air talent. (I concur with an earlier poster who said how much he hated Artie’s repeated redneck impression when he first joined, but his real talents gradually emerged.) And Howard already has at least one full time writer.
Back to the BG, what I’m afraid of, here, is the silence — if he WERE in rehab, wouldn’t somebody just say so? Unlike some stars, it would be POSITIVE press for Artie!
When Artie is back they need to setup a big ol’ baby bottle with warm milk to slurp on during the show and a burping station…The guy is a friggin man-baby.
By (tremendous) contrast, Artie has serious on-air talent.
????????
What the fuck are you smoking, other than that fat guinea Lange’s cock that is? When did wheezing start being considered on air talent? That and his monotonously repetitive stories of heroin abuse. Get your head out of your ass and wake up.
Stern is not going to hire writers because the lazy kike has relinquished the responsibility of all the bits to the dick sucking duo of Sal and Richard. $100 Mil a year doesn’t buy what it used to.
Stern is riding out the final year of his contract. Nothing more, nothing less. He started giving up on this show years ago and it is quite evident by the decline in the quality of the shows content. That and the fact that he only works 4 days a week, he still manages to take 10 to 12 weeks vacation a year.
It’s over and Stern’s next year on the radio will be his last.
Been a fan of the show since wnbc. Liked Jackie , but the show is better with Artie there. Question is Can someone be better than Artie? I absolutely think so. Hope Artie gets well and comes back but if he doesnt, get someone s ass in that chair immediately. Even if its only temporary. Have a guest each week. Nick Dipalo, Dave Atell, Colin Quinn would be great. As someone posted earlier, Fred talks to much when that chair is vacant. Mabe someone filling in will light a fire under his ass!!!!!!
I miss Artie, I hope he gets the help he needs, and comes back in January in better shape.
As for Howard leaving when the contract is up, I will be devastated, but there are the other shows on Sirius that I enjoy so I probably would not cancel. Going back to terrestial radio? NO WAY!
I love Artie. I mean, love ARTIE. I never thought I would be able to listen to the show w/o artie but after last week, I realized that is not the case. And, what really drove that point home was the whole week of Howard replays from the past. I truly was able to gain an appreciation of the relationship & chemistry between Howard and Robin. He really loves Robin, and for that reason, I (am trying to) love her now too.
I don’t believe Artie was fired. I belive Artie is in in-patient care.
So, I’m listening back to some early Sirius shows and on 1/23/07 Howard was complaining about Artie’s “wheezing noise” (the same one from recently) and Robin asked Artie a few times whether he was asleep.
Was that one of the times that Artie admitted to doing heroin? In any case, I’m pretty sure Artie has been back on the smack.
Jackie was obnoxious and had his own personal agenda for his side career of jokeland/gigs, but Jackie was a thorn in Howard’s side when someone had to be. Jackie and Stuttering John kept the show a ball-busting one and nobody ever felt safe. Now everyone feels safe and the occasional true moment (bro fight) stands out in the placid fields of beth/dancing with the stars/heroin/yankees/rehab talk. Jackie did make me laugh when he was allowed to talk and he didn’t try to stop the ball-busting like Artie does in the studio because he’s a “nice guy.” Jackie piled on and Stuttering John then piled on and people deflected back and forth.
Artie is a talent in some ways, but he’s the biggest attention whore I’ve ever heard on the show and I’m glad Howard has taken back his show from the sweaty palms of a crazy junkie.
sounds like most of us want artie and think the show is better with him then without. but i remember feeling like the show would be missing something if/when jakie left several years back, but it only got better with artie. time will tell, but artie or someone new sitting in his chair the show will chug along. hey now….
Excellent, well thought-out posts from everyone on both sides of the “is the show better w/without Artie argument”. Not one too stupid to pass up the greatest junkie part-time job on the planet –Artie will be back in Jan. with his same tired-ass, bullshit “redemption” parable (mqone put it best in an earlier post):
1-Howard I feel great
2- Im really buying in to this therapy thing (he’s probably not going)
3- Maybe Robin’s on to something with her diet
4- I have the best job in the world — I love coming to work
Love it or leave it, on balance I guess it is better to muddle through the final year with the steady relapses while Hamptons Howie mails in the final yr. of the show.
artie is awesome! I recently read his book and realised how f in smart he is and how fantastically brilliant he is. i think that when artie returns he should be surprised with a frankie valli appearance!! those who know artie know what this means.
best wished to him, his fabulous sis and mom who love him dearly
I tend to agree with my brother in law who says..”if there’s no artie im leaving sirius” I have been a devoted Fan/daily listener since 1985. How many more chances does this bloated, untallented drug addled Guinea diserve??
I am starting to think that his old man didn’t fall off that roof . . . . he had a premonition . . and then jumped!
We should all feel sorry for a slob that has difficulty only working four hours a day, four days a week for a six figure salary.
No empathy here, fuck Artie Lange.
Show sucked so bad this week I don’t think Artie, no matter what state of mind he is in , would have helped.
Awful. The silence was deadening. Is it true they are on vacation until Howard’s contract ends next year? I hope it’s not true.
The show isn’t the same without Artie.

Artie & Snoop would’ve been great…and his input on the Tiger interviews could’ve been priceless.
Who’d of thought Artie’d be the BIGGEST PUSSY on the show???
He’s acting like some Long Island fairy…waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
Artie is going to come back and say the same thing he says after every time he comes back from his “rehab”

Artie is on track to be one of those sad stories where people say “wow, imagine what could have been..” And “if only he had stayed clean…”
Don’t know if this has been posted:

Thanks “OJ” , I didnt see that. I remember them doing that last time looking for him. I wouldn’t be surprised if he tells the front desk to lie if he is around lol
mqone is so right. Artie is probably writing the script (I feel great, Robin’s diet is great, I have the greatest job in the world) for his triumphant return to the show in Jan. right now — on his way back from Delaware.
A lot of people fondly listen to the old shows. Jackie contributed more to the show than Howard will ever admit.

1/25/07 Artie obviously did a bump of heroin during work.
Who Cares! The Giants suck! GO COWBOYS!
artie is awesome! I recently read his book and realised how f in smart he is and how fantastically brilliant he is. i think that when artie returns he should be surprised with a frankie valli appearance!! those who know artie know what this means.
best wished to him, his fabulous sis and mom who love him dearly
