That’s why we all keep coming here, b/c Artie was such a good person. Does anyone remember the time that Howard asked Artie who would he rather be; Scott Baio, who never married and has had tons of women or Ron Howard, who has had one wife and a bunch of kids? Howard said he’d rather be Scott and Artie said he would rather be Ron.
That says a lot about Artie and makes me sad that it may never happen for him now.

That Adam/Artie clip is awesome. Makes me realize even more how much I miss him. I’m sure he’s doing his thing trying to get healthy and save his own life (I hope!). But, for selfish reasons only I deeply miss him on HSS. The show has an emptiness without him. I want him back so badly. I want him there so he can shut Robin’s shit down when she gets out of hand. Every day I come here hoping there will be news about Artie…and nothing. I’m not blaming you Matt, I know you’ve got nothing to tell. I’m still missing him and thinking about him, and God I wish his family would tell us how he’s doing.

Hearing Artie come out to George this morning had me pissing myself, that is an all time CLASSIC!!! I actually agree with everyone and think it is based on a true story. When he said that they made sweet love I almost ran off the road.

That’s exactly what I was thinking. I think the description of Artie’s functionality (or lack of it) in the Penthouse article is pretty close to the truth. There would be some Artie sighting reports if we was mentally and physically well. As it is, it’s like he’s vanished off the face of the earth.

My best guess about Artie’s situation: (some of this is based on what I’ve read on this site and other sites on the internet and some of this is pure speculation. But hey, just about everything we’ve heard about Artie since his release from hospital last January is based on speculation).
1. Artie is most likely under a virtual house arrest imposed by his mother and sister, who are not taking any chances on a second suicide or overdose attempt. There are NO credible accounts of Artie sightings, aside from some random, unsubstantiated posting on the SFN or twitter. Also, he does not appear to be receiving any visitors. People (Norm Macdonald, Howard Stern, etc.) report talking to Artie but not actually SEEING Artie.
2. Other than the Penthouse article, the only confirmation we have that Artie is alive are the accounts of phone calls with Artie posted on this site. This tells me that on a good day he can get it together to the point of having a short phone call with one of his friends or former work colleagues. It also points to his mom and sister placing heavy restrictions on access to Artie (see above point).
Think about it, if Artie ventured into the outside world at some point over the past 8 months — even to buy a Hawaiian punch at 7/11 — there would be photos all over the Internet. Instead, there’s been nothing. As time goes on, the total lack of reported activity becomes an ever more ominous sign about his overall state of health and well-being.

He claims to have inside information about Artie ’cause his sister-in law supposedly works with Stacie. This guy claims that Artie’s recovering nicely, hanging with his buds, spending time at his Jersey shore summer house and even taking a ride on his Jet Ski on nice days.
That is just such total BS. If Artie was out on his Jet Ski even once, someone would have uploaded pics all over the internet.
The total blackout on Artie coverage is baffling, and I can only conclude that he’s in very bad shape. I’ve also noticed that over time there are fewer, not more accounts, of people who’ve been in touch with Artie. Not good.

Somewhere4 used the perfect word to describle the media blackout “bizarre”. TMZ hasn’t posted anything since the intial posting…no updates whatsoever. What about the lack of cellphone coverage or even twitter? If emotional issues are still the biggest issue, the guy still needs fresh air and surely someone would have been able to provide an update. I just hope the reason he hasn’t been seen or heard from in the media is because mom and sis have him hiding out somewhere we would never expect and not because there are serious physical issues also plaguing him.
I think that it’s pretty clear that the golden age of Artie has come to a definite END. I dont think Artie is over, unless he wants to be. He has much talent, and since the Stern show, now has plenty notoriety, a best-selling book and lots of contacts in the industry. Im sure he can get work if he came back to the public.
I’ve said this before and will say it again. Howard’s show at it’s worse is still better than anything else including various podcasts. With that being said, Artie not being on the show has left a huge void. We’re reminded of that everytime we hear Artie on an old clip. (which is too far and in between)
Howard, Gary or someone needs to step up and give some kind of update or at the very least follow through with a “best of” show or shows dedicated to Artie’s contributions.

I’d love to see Artie return to show business. But for the sake of his health, well-being and long-term recovery, it would be better if he didn’t.
When Artie re-surfaces in the public eye (IF Artie re-surfaces?), he will face a barrage of unwanted questions about his suicide attempt, sobriety, short-term plans, long-term plans….That alone would be enough to drive anyone with self esteem and addiction issues back to the substance of their choice. Going back to HSS, returning to stand up comedy (or some combination of both) would just trigger all of the stress and personal demons that led Artie to his suicide attempt in the first place. You might as well just give him a couple of dime bags and a loaded gun.
Maybe if he recovers to a certain point, he could try his hand at something relatively low maintenance and stress free — like doing a podcast from his home. Or better yet, he can retire on his earnings (in spite of his addiction and gambling problem, Artie was responsible about saving money) and focus on finding true happiness.

Yeah Ed, I totally agree.
For those that didn’t hear, they were complaining about Benjy’s work space being dirty. Benjy defended himself, to an extent, saying some of the stuff was Artie’s… hairbrushes, a WWII book, etc. Howard said something like, “Well send those brushes to Artie, he probably needs them…wherever he is.”
But then once Benjy said Art’s name for the second or third time Howard angrily snapped, “OK, THAT’S FASCINATING!” And quickly ended that discussion.
Listening to Howard discuss (or NOT discuss) his plans in 4 months got me to thinking…And it can be dangerous when I do that, but anyway…What would motivate a guy, who constantly praises SIRIUS to ‘hold out’ on mentioning his decision as to what is going to happen at the end of his current contract.
Couple things I could think of:
1. Money negotiations – sirius dont have any and Howard wants it all.
2. Trying to create a buzz like before he left terrestrial radio.
3. Considering other offers besides sirius.
4. Being a douchebag and torquing off his fans because he is a nihilist and holding out the decision to make things more dramatic.
Honestly, I cant think of a person that wouldnt announce his intentions, it might generate interest in the stock, it certainly would create a media buzz and Sirius could advertise they still have ‘The King’. But he isnt doing any of this, so those 4 options are my thoughts, most likely its #3.
How does this pertain to Artie…Well if there were any plans for him to come back, Howard would say so. Missing out on that buzz is bad for business. All goes along with my thoughts of any chance of Artie coming back on the HSS are mostly nil.
I still think a podcast of Artie would be great…He could do something like Carolla does where there are very few callers to bug the guy and such. Have Gary and the other guys come on from time to time. Would be awesome.
i was also thinking Artie could also shift into doing writing for TV or HBO or comedians or the like…..he certainly knows a million people and it would keep him from the grind of being out there in public every day….

The way Robin and Gary were speaking of Artie in the past tense and comparing the Jackie era to the Artie era solidifies that Artie will never be back — I don’t even think Artie will ever be on the air with the Stern show, even in an interview. He’s gone and in all likelihood will never be heard from again in any medium.
