Howard gives a quick update on Artie

Thursday, March 4th, 2010

Howard gave a quick Artie update during a phone call from a long-time Stern fan who called in to talk about his brain and stomach cancer. The caller said he wanted to send out wishes to Artie, at that time Howard interrupted to say that he spoke to Artie a couple days ago.

Howard said Artie sounded good, said he was “up Artie”, explaining that the last time he spoke with him, he sounded really down. Artie told Howard that he has been sober for 54 days now, going to meetings and doing his thing.

I’m sure fans will question why Howard held out on giving us that update till now. If that caller didn’t bring it up, would Howard have?

The Norm Show coming to DVD in September

Friday, February 26th, 2010

Seems there is some hope of getting Artie Lange’s The Norm Show appearances on DVD. Artie didn’t come in till Season 2 (episode 3) but now that Season 1 is coming out, perhaps, we might get it next year.

The DVD of the first season of “The Norm Show” is slated for September. The series stars former “Saturday Night Live” comedian Macdonald as a sardonic former NHL player turned dysfunctional social worker. The shows also stars Laurie Metcalf, Artie Lange and Faith Ford. Benicio Del Toro is “sorry about Artie”

Benicio Del Toro on the Howard Stern show

Benicio Del Toro was in studio today promoting his new movie, The Wolfman. At the end of the segment, Benicio said, “I’m sorry about Artie…I just wanted to throw that out there.” Howard teased him for bringing the show to a halt. Benicio continued, “I like him” but was interrupted.

If you remember Benicio’s last appearance back in January 2009 (promoting Che), Artie got pretty loose in the studio, wanting to have a drink with Benicio and lighting up a cigarette. Artie had just returned to the show that day after a short stint in rehab.

Who thought of Artie during the Super Bowl Half-time show?

Monday, February 8th, 2010

The Who dusted off the cobwebs and rocked Sun Life Stadium last night playing a some of their classic hits. Most notably, for me, was the song, Baba O’Riley. For a long time, Artie used that song to open up his stand-up shows. He would come out swinging his arms, playing air guitar and singing along to it.

Goosebumps came over me last night watching it be performed. I only hope Artie was doing well enough to watch it along with the rest of us.

Howard finally talks to Artie

Tuesday, January 19th, 2010

In the first half hour of the show, Artie was discussed. Howard said that he finally got to talk to Artie via phone over the weekend. Gary and Fred went and visited him together. Robin said she had visited him as well. They didn’t give any details on him, just that it was tough talking with him because none of them really knew what to say.
