Artie shows up at Bubbapalooza Atlantic City

Monday, July 14th, 2008

A scathing review of Bubba the Love Sponge’s Bubbapalooza at the Taj Mahal in Atlantic City is up at PressofAtlanticCity.com. Despite the author’s dislike of seeing the guys in person, he reviewed Sal and Artie’s surprise performances.

While Governale’s stage personality has morphed into a totally racist pig who’s not that funny, Lange killed.

In fact, Lange got the only standing ovation of the night, and he deserved it. Obviously the most professional and funniest guy to hit the stage all night, the 300-pound comic immediately made fun of his weight.

“I just got back from Afghanistan (entertaining the troops), and as you can see, I lost a bunch of weight,” Lange joked, adding that five Mike Schmidts would have fit into the 318-pound Bubba’s jersey.

Lange mixed old and new material, particularly concentrating on sports. He surprisingly did more than 45 minutes, nearly a complete set for the comic.

“Every time you say Eagles, they have to spell it,” Lange said. “It’s like a spelling bee for retards. Now, let’s use Eagles in a sentence: The Eagles have never won a Super Bowl. If Donovan McNabb wants a ring, he better get married.”

Close Call in Afghanistan

Thursday, July 3rd, 2008

Stern’s Sirius radio show producer Gary Dell’Abate, show regular Artie Lange and comedians Nick DiPaolo, Jim Florentine and Dave Attell had just finished a comedy show for troops in Kandahar when the base came under attack.

“Everything was going fine until the end,” a friend of the comics, who heard from them by cell phone, tells us. “They were all done with their sets, and they were headed in a car convoy to a meet-and-greet elsewhere, but they only made it about 20 yards.

“The military base they were on came under mortar fire, and the convoy was turned around.”

Troops led the comics into a secure bunker, where they all waited for a very unfunny 35 minutes as the shelling continued.

Eventually it stopped, and the comedians, all uninjured, went on to continue the USO/Armed Forces Entertainment tour at other undisclosed locations in the Persian Gulf. Tony Burton, Dell’Abate’s rep, confirmed the incident but couldn’t comment.

Artie will be taping tomorrow night’s performance in New Jersey to be featured on HBO. It will not be a full hour, just about 15 minutes being used. Artie showed his appreciation to Howard saying without this show he would have never gotten this opportunity.

Lange on the Nick Dipaolo web show

Sunday, April 27th, 2008

Last Thursday Artie appeared on Nick Dipaolo’s webcam show. Two hours of my life that I will never get back and if it weren’t for the alcohol and good chat with Mark of Marksfriggin.com I may have never gotten through it.

There was just something in the air that night, or maybe it was BlogTV’s shitty setup for handling such an event - A Stern fan event! I have to admit that Eric the Midget’s webcam on Stickam is much better - except that Eric is on it.

So anyways, Artie arrives 28 minutes late to Nick’s house and another 7 minutes after that we lose audio and video. The show had attracted some 500+ visitors and neither BlogTV or Nick were ready to handle it. It seemed that first hour for me was all about refreshing my screen and hoping the connection was back. Even when Artie started talking - he was eating [neighbor made him meatballs] during the first part of the show so the microphone wasn’t close enough to his mouth and he was hard to hear.

During the second half of the show [after Artie was done eating and users had settled down] it was much better. Artie had adjusted his microphone and did his usual repeat of stories and jokes we all have heard before. Then we actually had a little bit of a Q & A [if you can call it that] from Nick to Artie. Below is about 2 hours of audio condensed to just under 10 mins. There were alot of parts I wanted to keep in but instead I just kept it to topics you all might be interested in.

Such as - Artie’s take on:

  • Teddy
  • Artie’s would be replacement [John Diresta]
  • The Bleeding Deacons
  • Hot Chicks
  • Dana
  • Politics
  • Political Correctness
  • The Florida Gig
  • Future Plans
  • Getting a new assistant
  • The crowds at shows

I apologize now if you don’t like it. The show was worse.
