Jim Breuer

Monday, August 25th, 2008

I went to the Hartford Funnybone Saturday night to see Jim Breuer. He was very entertaining, he had some new material and performed some of his classic bits like Goat Boy and the drink party. There is nothing like hearing his trademark laugh live. REGULATORS!

And I was lucky enough to grab him for a photo…

Bernie Mac dies at 50

Saturday, August 9th, 2008

And we lose another great comedian this year. Bernie Mac passed away today from complications due to pneumonia. He is probably best known for his role in the Ocean Eleven franchise as well as The Bernie Mac show. Bernie had an excellent stand-up routine documented in The Original Kings of Comedy. In recent years he had many successful roles in various movies.

Checking in - Again

Tuesday, July 29th, 2008

Hey Artie fans!

Good news - I had mentioned previously that my new job had some internet problems - this was mainly due to too many people on one line. TO MY SURPRISE, an SGB reader and Howard Stern fan contacted me and turns out he was from my company’s internet provider. Within a couple days we had a technician down there installing another T1 line (which was already on order).

Today was my first day back in the office since it has been installed and it works great! So I should have no problem listening to the show at work - besides having to work and all.

Thank you to Chris S. for helping us out!! {awaiting confirmation on plugging his company’s  website}

Checking In

Wednesday, July 16th, 2008

Hey Everyone!

I am glad to see that you guys/gals are posting up a bunch in the show discussion threads. It doesn’t substitute for original posts and such but I gotta say y’all have really stepped up and I am very thankful its not just blank white space here. Maybe its just because the Show is back from vacation. Regardless, I am very happy to see the posts.

My update

The job is going great, only the second day but this the type of company I have always wanted to work at. The kind of company that gives their employees so much. With that being said, its also demanding. In time I may be able to stream the show at work. I haven’t been able to try out my Stiletto too much but it did show I was getting a signal on the train, which is a fucking shocker. That thing can’t pick up a signal if I am standing outside my house under a tree nevermind inside of a train.

SBG Help

I was very pleased to see all the responses to my request for help. I am not making any decisions this week as I am not sure what a normal day will be for me yet. However, when the time comes where I stop denying that I need some help I will be looking for the following criteria:

  • someone who is able to listen to the majority of the show
  • an easy going person with a sense of humor
  • someone who can give a fair representation of Artie stuff from todays show
  • a motivated person
  • someone who would truly like to help out SBG, not to plug themselves

This isn’t a pay job. I never really made any money off of the site besides a couple ads [considering all the time I put in, hosting costs, etc]

Hey Now for now! Hopefully we can get some entertaining shit back on here soon!

The Time Has Come

Sunday, July 13th, 2008

It feels like forever since we had some Artie news and thats because THE SHOW HAS BEEN GONE FOR AN ETERNITY!! Damn these 2 week vacations.

…with that being said :

I just got a new job!

I am pretty stoked, its a great opportunity doing what I love to do, online marketing. (and before you ask - no its not to manual masturbate caged animals for artificial insemination).

What does that mean for the future of Save Baby Gorilla?

No its not the end of SBG. I want to continue this site for a long time to come. I have enjoyed all my readers and Stern fans support.

I will be starting this new job on Tuesday. I have to commute on the train for like an hour both ways, morning and night. Hopefully I will be able to post some good stuff in the morning on the way down there or on the way home. Bummer that I will probably be hearing the same part of the show each way.

VOLUNTEERS - I MAY NEED YOUR HELP!

Seeing that for at least a while I won’t be able to listen on the job. I probably will need some people to help out here. I use to have the luxury of the listening all day and if a breaking story arose then I was to post about it. That probably won’t happen anymore. Maybe on lunch time I can do it with a little help from my bud Marks Friggin.

So Right Now I have No Idea What The Fuck Is Going On

Maybe some stuff will change, maybe not. Either way, I will probably need some help. So if there are any volunteers out there to help post stories and what not - let me know!

More Man Cave Details

Jay, the owner of Advanced Home Audio & Video, emailed me last night and offered to send over some stories and pictures from the Man Cave installs his company performed at Gary and Artie’s house.  Another SBG Exclusive! Much thanks to Jay and my friend Pat.

Happy 4th of July Everyone!

I hope you all have a great holiday!! Have fun but be safe!

George Carlin has died

Monday, June 23rd, 2008

A comic legend has died. George Carlin died Sunday evening from heart failure. Carlin had a history of health problems over the years. He was 71.

George Carlin is easily in my Top 5 comedians list [very close to the top, if not all the way at the top].  Knowing he was getting older, I kept telling myself to go see him perform in recent years. I never did and now I’m pretty disappointed and saddened by his passing. Rest In Peace George, no longer will you have to get pissed off at all the humans doing and saying the dumbest things.

Exclusive: Chat with Teddy

Friday, June 20th, 2008

Teddy's Amsterdam disguiseI had the satisfaction of a rare phone call waking me up during my mid-afternoon nap yesterday. This was the third phone call that had received while I was trying to get some shuteye before my “beer league” softball game tonight. I wasn’t going to answer it but when I looked at the screen and it read: “Ted” on it, I knew it could only be one person.

So I answered the phone and was ecstatic to hear that it in fact was Teddy, Artie’s former assistant and now live show producer. He said he just happened to be browsing my website, reading some stuff and thought he would give me a ring. Throughout the chat [which lasted over 40 minutes], Ted was very candid about everything and as always a pleasure to speak with.

The New Assistant

Ted said the new assistant, Hillary, is working out pretty well. She is now doing all the stuff that Ted was terrible at doing and never really wanted to do. As you guys know, Teddy works full time at Sirius on the Stern show but he was also taking Artie’s messages, emails as well as dealing with the live shows and traveling. In the end, Ted couldn’t do it all and now with Hillary on board it has made Ted’s job more enjoyable. I should note that Hillary doesn’t go on the road.

Ted also said that he was really happy Hillary is the new assistant because she is good for Artie, he is very nice to her and he is now more respectful to the position of an assistant [because she is a girl].

What is Teddy’s role?

Teddy is now doing what he always loved about working with Artie, in his words “I just wanted to go with him on the road”. Teddy is kind of like Artie’s live show producer. He makes sure the sound check, lighting, backstage and dressing room are all just right for the show. He also handles the details for the gig including the line-up, how much time each comedian has, the show starting on time, being at the side of the stage during the set if Artie needs anything and tracking ticket numbers at the end of the night. He is the producer.

JD has joined the road crew recently as well, documenting all the behind the scenes stuff at the shows and blogging on artie-lange.com. Ted said him and JD work really well together.

Artie on Drugs

As reported earlier, Artie slept through half the show yesterday which again sparked the concerns / rumors of Artie back on the heroin. So I asked Ted about it. He told me that Artie wasn’t on drugs and felt it could be a combination of things. He said, “Maybe it is the Hawaiian punch” but quickly went into how Artie was feeling the pressure from a lot of things recently including building a house, but mainly, the USO shows. Ted explained that Artie doesn’t really feel stressed about going over to Iraq [besides the fact that who wants to be traveling for a day] but that Artie was more concerned about putting on a good show for the soldiers. Ted said he has been saying recently that he “doesn’t want to bomb”.

Artie vs. Teddy Fight

I asked Ted about the day everyone either heard on the air, watched on Howard TV or read about in the newspaper: Artie quitting. He described it as his “single scariest day ever”. He told me that Howard pulled him aside and talked to him after the show. Ted was apologizing to Howard, feeling that he was responsible for ruining the show by Artie getting pissed and quitting. Ted offered to quit if that would help things but Howard insisted that he stay and that things would work out.

After everything that went down that day both guys still managed to get on the same plane and go to Amsterdam. Ted said that they didn’t talk at all until sometime after they returned from the trip. The day after Ted new that it wasn’t the real Artie talking the day before – the one that was throwing things at him, calling him a thief and threatening to beat him up.

Reconciliation

After Amsterdam Artie came to Ted, apologized and asked him to come back to work with him. Ted said that he was nervous about working with him, he certainly didn’t want to put Artie in that position again and have everything blow up. At first Ted said no but changed his mind after Artie agreed to some ground rules that Ted set forth.

Ultimately Artie and Ted are close. They have spent a lot of time with each other on the road and although it was a pretty crazy situation that went down, these guys are friends and were able to return to working together. Things are running relatively smooth these days and there are no hard feelings.

Ted also said at the time of the fight tension had really been building between them both. There were a bunch of things eating at each other and it needed to come out. So really, the fight was the letting out of a lot of built up steam. Ted said he was glad it happened because it enabled them to deal with some stuff and get over it.

What about Teddy stealing from Artie?

One of the things that stuck out to me during the Artie vs. Teddy fight was the accusation of Teddy stealing money from Artie. I asked Ted about that. He told me that he wasn’t in a good place financially when he started to work with Artie on the road. In the beginning he was dependant on his own credit card while traveling from gig to gig. It got to the point where the monthly charges were very high, he was in a ton of debt and he couldn’t afford to keep working with Artie. It wasn’t like he was getting a per diem. The conversation brought to mind a recent show stint with Eric the midget and Johnny Frado.

Of course Artie being the generous guy he is, he lent Ted some money to help with the credit card and reimbursements for day-to-day costs of being on tour. Ted referred to it as a “loan with no interest and no due date”.

Fast forward to the fight. Artie came down on Ted some pretty hard talk like “Stop robbing my money” and “He is ripping off my fucking money”. Ted explained that Artie had just got done with his taxes and “got bombarded with other dead beats” that Artie lent money to. Ted insists that he never stole money. Artie’s anger was really with a lot of different things but Ted was the target that day and probably received some collateral damage.

High Pitch Mike

Being that High Pitch Mike has been my target a few times, I asked Ted about the Artie vs. Mike stuff. He told me that things have calmed down but Artie and HPM really don’t talk. I told Ted that it seemed a bit contrived and that at times maybe Mike just wanted to get on the air.

Ted explained that it was supposed to be a bit. The show thought it would be funny if Mike could come up with some rants that he would say on the show [in his weird voice]. They weren’t supposed to be on Artie but it’s just the direction he wound up going. Then of course he started crossing the line on his own. Talking about Artie’s father falling off the roof, etc… Ted described HPM as a smart guy that knew how to push Artie’s buttons and by Artie knowing how to push Mike’s buttons they just got at each other.

Ted asked me if there were anything else I wanted to know but being that I was unprepared, I couldn’t come up with much else. I thanked him for calling and we hung up. I must apologize here for saying that “Teddy went Hollywood a long time ago”. I have had a few phone conversations with Teddy in the past and he has always been very nice to me besides not coming through on a couple things but I can’t really blame him for that.

Surprise Phone Call

Thursday, June 19th, 2008

I just got off the phone with Teddy. He was very candid about his current situation with Artie and allowed me to ask anything I wanted to know. I didn’t have a tape recorder handy but I tried taking some notes.

Stay Tuned for the write-up!!
